HOW IT HAPPENED
Like the first two games of the weekend series, it was the Griffins who struck first as junior outfielder Wyatt Spinks took junior right-hander
Sebastian Velasquez deep for a solo shot in the first, followed by an RBI double from freshman catcher Matthew Sharkey in the second that gave Chestnut Hill the early 2-0 advantage. Velasquez would end up taking a no-decision in the win for Post, lasting only 3 1/3 innings and allowing four runs on six hits with four strikeouts, two walks, and a hit batter.
In relief of him, sophomore right-hander
Logan Pulitano shut down the Griffin offense in his 3 2/3 innings of work, allowing no runs on two hits with four strikeouts, two hit batters, a walk, and a wild pitch. Pulitano has not allowed an earned run in five of his eight appearances so far this season and is now 2-0 on the mound.
The team-leading seventh multi-RBI game of the year for graduate outfielder
Andrew Hartman paced the Eagle offense back into the affair, as Hartman tied the game at two with his third-inning RBI single to right as part of his 2-for-5 day with four RBIs. The graduate student was later hit by a pitch to tack on the go-ahead fourth run of the game and provided an insurance run in the ninth with his RBI groundout as part of his performance.
Graduate shortstop
Evan Cornwell started to see his bat heat up as well, with two hits in the win, driving in a run and scoring twice at the bottom of the lineup as he was hit twice by Chestnut Hill pitching, who hit a total of three batters. The Griffins used seven different pitchers in their loss as graduate left-hander Noah Tincher lasted 4 1/3 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts, three walks, and two hit batters to fall to 1-1 on the year.
As a staff, Chestnut Hill had two pitchers who did not record an out as they allowed a combined 10 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits with nine strikeouts, seven walks, three hit batters, and a wild pitch. Freshman right-hander
Andrew Hardin shut the door on his fifth save and sixth consecutive scoreless appearance overall for the Eagles in the ninth, getting out of a first and second jam with two outs to clinch the 10-7 decision for Post. Hardin got pinch-hitting freshman Luke Sosa to ground out and end a game that saw Eagles pitchers record a combined 10 strikeouts to only three walks.
