HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 6, Molloy University 11
It was a repeat matchup from yesterday's 11-1 win for Post, but this time it was the Lions putting up 11 runs as a nine-run third inning would propel Molloy from behind for the 11-6 victory. Freshman infielder
Haley DiBona had her first three-hit game as an Eagle, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the first and one run scored as Post jumped in front first, 1-0.
Sophomore right-hander
Meghan McGurk got the start in the circle for the Eagles, getting the chance to face off against her sister, senior infielder Emily McGurk, whom she allowed a single against while also getting her to ground out to end the second. Senior infielder Mae Savage finished 3-for-5 for the Lions with three RBIs, including a go-ahead two-run single in the second, with one run scored.
Savage was one of four players with two-plus RBIs in the win, along with freshman right-hander Ava Zicchinelli, junior utility player Stevie Dabbadie, and sophomore outfielder Megan Wegel. But before that big nine-run inning by Molloy, Post retook the lead with a four-run third behind a two-run double from graduate third baseman
Nyla Sapia, along with a McGurk sacrifice fly, and an infield single from sophomore outfielder
Isabella Oliver.
However, leading 5-2, McGurk would get chased from the third without recording an out, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits with two wild pitches as four consecutive batters reached safely to start the frame. In all, nine runs crossed on nine hits and one error as the Lions sent 13 batters to the plate, taking an 11-5 advantage. Sophomore outfielder
Hannah Searles would get a run back in the fifth with her RBI double in the 11-6 defeat.
Game 2: Post University 1, Saint Michael's College 11
Graduate right-hander
Katelyn Lipsky had another strong outing on the mound for the Eagles, going four innings in which she allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with two walks, a strikeout, and a wild pitch. Lipsky exited in the fifth after allowing a double to senior outfielder Brooke Edgerly and an RBI single to freshman outfielder Mady Bull, before junior left-hander
Devin Barnett came in to relieve her. Barnett would get out of the inning unharmed, keep Post behind by just a 4-0 score heading into the bottom half of the frame.
Before that, Lipsky allowed one run in each of the first three innings via a fielder's choice to senior right-hander CJ Davidson, along with an error by Oliver, and an RBI single by freshman infielder Madi Liimatainen. Davidson, who was 1-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, threw a complete game against the Eagles, allowing a seventh-inning run on six hits with six strikeouts, two wild pitches, and a walk, improving to 2-3 on the season.
Although Post only trailed by four heading into the seventh, a seven-run inning by the Purple Knights saw Davidson triple in two runners while scoring herself on a second error in the game by Oliver. Graduate catcher
Sydney Jones plated the only run of the game for the Eagles with an RBI groundout in the bottom half of the frame in the 11-1 loss.
