Maunders Strikes for Six, Men's Lacrosse Back in Win Column with Win Versus Point Park

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –  Freshman attacker Cameron Maunders had himself a day in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Post Men's Lacrosse got back in the win column and snapped its two-game losing streak with a 13-8 victory over Point Park University on Wednesday at the University of Pennsylvania. Maunders had a career-high six goals in a win that was spearheaded by a 7-0 run and four man-up goals by the freshman alone.

THE BASICS

Post University 13, Point Park University 8

Post University (4-3)

Point Park University (1-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Not only did Maunders show out with six goals in the victory, but he would also set a new program record in the process, as he scored four of the six goals on the man-up advantage for the Eagles, breaking the three-goal mark set by Luke McDermott in 2017 and Braeden Lockyer in 2023. The freshman scored two of the first three goals in the game for Post, who jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the beginning of the first quarter against the Pioneers, who responded with a 2-0 run of their own to end the frame with goals from freshman attacker Zak Marshall and freshman midfielder Parker Bowersox.

However, the Eagles never trailed nor found themselves tied in the affair, as senior attacker Leighton Cooke scored one of his two goals to re-up the lead to two, 4-2, before sophomore midfielder Kegan Swain netted one of his two goals on the day to extend it back to a three-goal game. Sophomore goalie Liam McCurry, who made eight saves on 16 attempts, earned his second win between the pipes for Post, allowing only eight goals to the Point Park offense, which was led by three goals and three points from Bowersox.

Leading by one with time winding down in the first half, Cooke's buzzer-beating goal would be the start of a 7-0 run by the Eagles that lasted throughout the third quarter and into the fourth. During that 6-0 stretch in the third, Maunders connected on four consecutive goals, including three on the man-up advantage, which allowed him to set the program record, as the once one-goal lead became an eight-goal lead with only 15 minutes remaining, 12-4.

It would take until 8:42 was left in the game for the Pioneers to break the scoring drought, as Bowersox scored the first of two goals in a span of 1:41, after 23:32 had passed without a goal. While Post would get outscored 4-1 in the fourth, the comeback attempt fell well short with the Eagles coming out on top by five, 13-8, with freshman goalie Mario Lorensen taking the loss for Point Park after making 13 saves and allowing 15 goals.

The often stout Post defense continued to impress as sophomore long-stick midfielder Gavin Lee led the way with four caused turnovers and tied for the team lead in ground balls with five. Swain also finished with five ground balls to go along with his two goals and a 13-for-17 showing in the faceoff dot on a day where the Eagles were 17-for-24 overall.

BY THE NUMBER
  • Cameron Maunders finished with a career-high six goals for six points in the win, surpassing his previous best of two goals, which he had done four times this year -- Maunders set the program record for single-game man-up goals with four
  • Liam McCurry earned his second win of the season in net for Post University, making eight saves while allowing eight goals -- McCurry had not played since the first quarter against Assumption University earlier this year after defeating AIC in the season opener
  • Post University moves to 4-1 this season when allowing 10 goals or less to an opponent, holding Point Park University to just eight goals in the win -- The one loss for the Eagles came against Wilmington University, in which they allowed 10 goals in a 10-7 loss at home
  • This was the first time in program history that Post University and Point Park University faced off against each other

WHO'S NEXT
Post University heads back into conference play this Saturday as they will take on Caldwell University at 11:00 AM on the road in New Jersey. After losing the first two all-time matchups against the Cougars, the Eagles have won each of the last four games, including last year's home game, 14-4.
