Zichelli Earns First Collegiate Win in Net for Men's Lacrosse, Eagles Dominate Caldwell in Conference Play

CALDWELL, N.J. – Junior goalie Dominick Zichelli got his first collegiate start in net for Post University Men's Lacrosse, while sophomore midfielder Connor Denny had a career-high six points via his three goals and three assists as the Eagles dominated Caldwell University for their fifth consecutive win in the all-time series, 20-4, in Saturday's road matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the sixth time this season, the Post defense allowed less than 10 goals, holding Caldwell to only four goals in the wire-to-wire victory that saw the Eagles score the first 11 goals of the contest before junior defender James McCarthy scored the first goal of the day for the Cougars. In all, four different Caldwell players scored against Zichelli, who had 11 saves on 15 attempts for the Eagles to move to 1-0 in net, while senior goalie Edwin Himmel-Maines made nine saves and allowed 20 goals in 53:32 of action. 

On the Post side, four different players finished with hat tricks as Denny led the team with six points, followed by junior midfielder Gabe Roman with five points via his three goals and two assists in the win. Freshman attackers Andrew Grippo and Cameron Maunders each also had three goals apiece, while Grippo had four points because of his one assist in the process. 

In all, nine different Post players scored, including freshman midfielder Angelo Sirico, who had his first collegiate goal and two assists for three total points, while senior attacker Tomasz Simeunovic had the best game of his collegiate career with two goals and an assist for a total of three points as well. Sophomore long-stick midfielder Gavin Lee led the defense with three caused turnovers, followed by two for sophomore defender John Karas, who had six ground balls. 

In the faceoff dot, Post dominated in the 20-4 win, winning 18-of-28 overall as sophomore midfielder Kegan Swain won 10-of-14 faceoffs with a team-high eight ground balls.

  • Connor Denny had a career game for Post University on the offensive side of the ball, scoring a career-high three goals and adding a career-high three assists for a total of six points in the victory
  • Dominick Zichelli made his first start in net for Post University, earning his first collegiate win after making 11 saves on 15 total shot attempts from Caldwell University
  • Post University moves to 5-1 this season when allowing 10 goals or less to an opponent, holding Caldwell University to only four goals in the win -- The one loss for the Eagles came against Wilmington University, in which they allowed 10 goals in a 10-7 loss at home

WHO'S NEXT
Playing another non-conference affair, Post University travels to North Carolina next week as they take on Chowan University on Tuesday at 12:00 PM. The two teams last played each other in 2020, with the Eagles falling in a 17-7 decision.
