HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 2, Holy Family University 1
Hascup's sixth outing of the season saw the righty go six innings in which he allowed no runs on four hits with eight strikeouts, a new career high, and two walks to pick up his first collegiate victory on the mound. Hascup was relieved by a trio of Eagles, starting with junior right-hander
Zion Fraser, before freshman right-handers
JJ Roberts and
Andrew Hardin finished the job with a combined three innings of three-hit ball with one unearned run allowed, three strikeouts, and a walk.
For Hardin, he would pitch the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season, striking out two batters and pushing his scoreless appearances streak to five consecutive games. The lone run allowed by Post pitching came in the seventh inning when a fielding error by graduate infielder
Hunter Keller allowed the inning to continue, in which junior outfielder Brayden King singled home a run that cut the Eagle lead in half, 2-1, which ended up being the final score.
Despite the 2-1 loss, Holy Family's pitching had a strong showing as senior right-hander Jorden Sesar threw six scoreless innings to match Hascup, striking out 10 hitters while allowing only two hits and walking four. Junior left-hander Jake Vasil ended up taking the loss as a leadoff two-base error by Keller came around to score on junior outfielder
Joey Cohen, who singled him home before three straight walks with one out allowed another Post runner to cross the plate.
After Vasil's 1/3 inning of work, freshman right-hander Hayden Hicks held down the final 2 2/3 innings for the Tigers, allowing no runs on no hits with six strikeouts as the pitching staff combined to strike out 16 Post players out of the 27 outs recorded.
Game 2: Post University 0, Holy Family University 16 (7 Innings)
Junior right-hander Bryan Burtoft would get plenty of run support from the Tiger offense in game two, as he threw a complete game shutout for Holy Family, allowing just four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Post's pitching, who had a strong game one performance, would struggle in game two as five pitchers combined to allow 16 runs on 15 hits with seven walks, two strikeouts, two wild pitches, and a hit batter.
Senior right-hander
Harby Valera suffered his third loss on the mound this season for the Eagles, getting tagged for eight runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings of work with three walks, two wild pitches, a hit batter, and a strikeout. Senior outfielder Andres Rivera had himself an afternoon with a 3-for-3 performance that featured a three-run home run, a double, and a single to put him a triple short of the cycle as he walked twice and scored three runs.
Sophomore utilityman Jalen David also had a three-hit game for Holy Family with three RBIs and two runs scored as the home team had a total of six extra-base hits out of their 16 total in the 16-0 seven-inning shutout win to force a doubleheader split.
