HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 2, Cedarville University 4 (7 Innings)
Like the second game of the doubleheader yesterday, pitching was the name of the game for both sides, as just four combined earned runs out of the six total runs scored between the teams, seeing Cedarville come out on top, 4-2. However, Post did get on the board first with an RBI ground out from Hartman, before being held in check until the seventh inning of the affair, stringing together only four hits in the middle five innings.
Sophomore right-hander Micah George ended up picking up the win for the Yellow Jackets as sophomore right-hander Coen Ball went just one inning before George held down the next 4 1/3 innings. The sophomore held the Eagles scoreless during that stretch, allowing three hits while walking two and striking out one, while on the other side, senior right-hander
Justin Portes threw all six innings for Post. Portes closed, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with two strikeouts, two walks, and two wild pitches, falling to 0-3 on the year.
One of those wild pitches would score a run for the Yellow Jackets in the first inning, followed by an RBI single from sophomore outfielder Grayson Weikel, serving as the catalyst for the four unanswered runs that Cedarville had en route to their victory. Sophomore infielder Cooper Martin doubled in a run in the second inning, while freshman infielder Graham Ward added on to the lead with an RBI fielder's choice in the sixth. Graduate infielder
Hunter Keller would get one back for the Eagles in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, but sophomore left-hander Max Doepker would shut the door on the game for his second save of the season.
Game 2: Post University 19, Cedarville University 6
As they had done in every game of the weekend series, the Eagles jumped ahead first, this time with two runs via an RBI walk issued by freshman right-hander Brody Adams to freshman infielder
Andrew Rhymestine, followed by an RBI single from Keller. Senior right-hander
Harby Valera, who earned the win on the mound, spun five innings in which he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with three strikeouts, two walks, and a wild pitch to move to 1-1 on the year.
Post would only fall behind once, 3-2, in the third inning as RBI singles from Ward and junior infielder Eli Henderson, along with a wild pitch by Valera, briefly turned the tide in favor of the Yellow Jackets. However, nine unanswered runs by the Eagle offense, starting with a bases-clearing triple from Hartman in the fourth inning, flipped the game back in favor of Post for good, as during that stretch, Hartman totaled four RBIs, along with two from graduate shortstop
Evan Cornwell as part of his three-RBI day, and an RBI single from Rhymestine, who also had three RBIs.
Freshman infielder
Max DeFrancesco hit his first collegiate home run in the seventh inning, a three-run home run, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk as the Eagles cruised to a 19-6 victory to close things out at McCray Park. Post's bullpen combined in the final four innings to allow two runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout between sophomore right-hander
Logan Pulitano and the freshman right-hander duo of
Eddie Torres and
Hector Cuevas.
