Women's Ice Hockey Gets Power Play Going in 3-2 Road Loss to LIU

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. –  Two power play goals on three total attempts for Post University Women's Ice Hockey would keep the Eagles competitive against LIU in their final road regular season game on Friday afternoon, but ultimately a stretch of three unanswered goals, two of which came from sophomore forward Drew Dyczkowski, sunk Post, 3-2, with a rematch slated in the Sport Center of Connecticut tomorrow afternoon at 2:45 PM.

THE BASICS

Post University 2, LIU 3

Post University (10-22-1, 10-16-1 NEWHA)

LIU (17-15-1, 15-11-1 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
As has been the case as of late, it was Post striking first as senior forward Tristan Currie made the most of the first power play of the day that the Eagles had, recording her fifth goal of the season, which now ties her for the second-most on the team this year. But the lead would not last long as shortly into the second period, Dyczkowski recorded her first of three points in the affair, finding the back of the net against sophomore goalie Devyn Amundson to tie the game at one all just over 1 1/2 minutes into the frame.

That would be the start of three unanswered goals for the Sharks as Dyczkowski would go on to assist junior forward Grace Babington on the go-ahead goal, only a little over six minutes after the game-tying goal. Babington also played a role in both of Dyczkowski's goals, giving her a three-point game as well, with one goal and two assists, while senior forward Paige Vreeman was equally as impressive.

Vreeman picked up assists on both of the first two goals by LIU, with the only other point scorers besides Babington, Dyczkowski, or Vreeman being sophomore defenseman Kristen Kiggen, who got the secondary assist on the third goal of the game for the Sharks by Dyczkowski. That third goal came just over halfway through the third, before sophomore defenseman Caryss Kehl narrowed the gap down to one for Post with her goal from junior forward Celena Mickevicius on the power play with under eight minutes left in regulation.

With Amundson pulled from the goal with under two minutes remaining, Post would fire three shots on sophomore goalie Victoria Rutnik, while another two were blocked by the LIU defense to hold off the late attack by the Eagles for the 3-2 win. Rutnik closed with 19 saves in what was her first win against the Eagles in her career, while Amundson finished with 22 saves in the defeat.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Caryss Kehl closed with a multi-point game, scoring the second goal of the game while also assisting on Tristan Currie's first-period goal to finish with one goal and one assist in the loss
  • Drew Dyzkowski finished with two goals and an assist, totaling three points for LIU in their victory today
  • Victoria Rutnik finished with 19 saves on 21 attempts for LIU in net, earning her first win against Post University in her career
  • Scoring two power play goals in the game today, this is only the second time this season in which Post University has recorded two-plus power play goals in a single game, along with their 3-2 win against Stonehill College on the road back on November 21st, 2025
