Amundson Makes 29 Saves in 3-2 Thriller for Women's Ice Hockey Against Stonehill

SHELTON, Conn. – Trailing by one goal twice on Saturday afternoon, junior defenseman Emma Hoen helped lead Post University Women's Ice Hockey to a come-from-behind victory against Stonehill College at home, 3-2. Senior forward Tymmarie Grom appeared in her 141st consecutive game and 141st game overall for the Eagles as well, becoming the all-time leader in games played for Post in the win.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Stonehill College 2

Post University (10-21-1, 10-15-1 NEWHA)

Stonehill College (14-16-2, 14-10-2 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stonehill wasted no time building off of their momentum from last night's comeback win in overtime, scoring just 21 seconds into the contest as junior forward Peyton Wise went under the bar for the Skyhawks with help from last night's game-winning goal scorer, senior forward Maddison Achtyl, and senior forward Gracie Sacca. Following that goal on the first shot of the game, sophomore goalie Devyn Amundson would come up with 27 saves in the game, allowing just one more goal over the final 59:39 of action to earn her second win in net.

With Stonehill on their second of six total power plays in the game, junior forward Jet Devlin came away with a loose puck, going coast-to-coast for the Eagles and beating senior goalie Eve Stone with a high corner shot that tied the game at one just over midway into the second period. The tie score would not last long as moments later on that same power play for the Skyhawks, Sacca would beat Amundson for the go-ahead goal, helping her team regain a 2-1 edge.

Making it two shorthanded goals in the game for Post, Hoen, who ended up having the game-winning goal in the third, located freshman forward Kai Hyatt with a pass that led to her first collegiate goal and the game-tying strike with under seven minutes left in the frame, sending the teams into the third period knotted up at two apiece.

Less than four minutes into the final 20 minutes of play, Hoen would gather a loose puck at the point and fire it by Stone for what would hold up as the eventual game-winning goal, unassisted. as the Post defense shut down two power plays by Stonehill, as well as the extra attacker threat with Amundson coming up with a key save as time expired on the 3-2 victory.
