Peterson's goal ties game for Eagles at LIU, 1-1

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2026) -- Eagles Women's Ice Hockey tied with Long Island University Saturday afternoon after intense overtime and shootout periods, culminating their first conference home-and-away series of the season.

THE BASICS

Post 1, LIU 1

LIU: 1-2-1 (1-0-1 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Eagles and Sharks remained deadlocked in a 0-0 stalemate until just 4:54 remained in regulation. Ten seconds into a Sharks power-play with time and scoring opportunities dwindling, Laura Nagy got to work, firing LIU's first shot of the power-play and finding the back of Eagles goalie, Devyn Amundson's net. Prior to the lone goal, Amundson saved 24 scoring attempts on the day.

Unwilling to lose without further effort, Eagles sophomore defenseman Callie Peterson took a shot from beyond the right faceoff circle off a pass from Jodie Rose, scoring her first collegiate goal and equalizing the game at one score apiece. With less than a minute remaining in the third period, the Eagles committed another penalty, giving the Sharks another power-play opportunity, but they were unable to convert as the game headed to overtime and the advantage expired.

In five minutes of overtime, the Eagles took five shots at LIU goalie Victoria Rutnik, while the Sharks attempted four shots of their own, neither team able to come up with a game-winning, sudden-death goal, thus ending in a tie.

For extra points in conference standings, the New England Women's Hockey Alliance rivals began a shootout. Grace Babington opened the shootout for the Sharks, her attempt sinking past Amundson. For the Eagles, Kingston Golding, Lily Zohner and Jodie Rose made attempts, but all were stopped by Rutnik. LIU skaters Drew Dyczkowski and Saga Odebrant also made attempts, both stopped by Amundson. LIU received two points for a shootout win and Post received one.

WHO'S NEXT

The Eagles will open a five-game road trip, heading to Stonehill University next Friday, October 16 to play at 5 p.m. and again on Saturday, October 17 at 2 p.m.
