Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Saint Anselm, 6-3, to Start Road Weekend

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore forward Nicola Forth recorded a hat trick for Saint Anselm College on Friday night as Post University Women's Ice Hockey was doubled up by the Hawks on the road, 6-3, despite a late third-period comeback attempt.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Saint Anselm College 6

Post University (9-17-1, 9-11-1 NEWHA)

Saint Anselm College (14-12-1, 14-6-1 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior defenseman Emma Hoen continued her hot stretch for the Eagles with a quick goal just 3:02 into the contest on a rebound from junior forward Noa Farberman's shot on freshman goalie Kayla Czukoski. For Hoen, it marked the third consecutive game in which she has scored for Post, the fifth time in six games, and sixth time in eight games, while making it seven of the last eight games with at least a point.

However, that would be the only time that the visitors were in front in the game, as it was Saint Anselm answering back with three consecutive goals against senior goalie Hannah Saunders, who returned to the net after a week off for Post. Freshman forward Ava Hunter and Forth each scored for the Hawks, while mixed in there was a power play goal from sophomore forward Lucy DeCoteau.

Leading 3-1 in the second, freshman defenseman Tallulah Cameron scored the second collegiate goal of her career, going with a backhand shot over the shoulder of Czukoski, cutting the deficit back down to one goal for Post. 57 seconds later, though, junior forward Alexis Poppleton helped the Hawks regain a two-goal lead off a turnover in the defensive zone by the Eagles, giving them a 4-2 edge heading into the third.

After being 0-for-5 on the power play through most of the third, the best chance of the day for the Eagles would come in the form of a 5-on-3 power play with around 3:30 left in regulation, in which junior defenseman Marley Webster would score her first goal of the season, giving Post life with 2:51 left and still having a 5-on-4 opportunity. That chance ended when senior forward Tristan Currie tripped up senior forward Brooklyn Schniederhan, bringing it to a 4-on-4 situation until the Saint Anselm penalty expired, leading to the Hawks being on the man-up opportunity for the remainder of regulation.

With Saunders pulled for the extra attacker, Forth put home the empty net goal, her second of the day, before 13 seconds later, beating Saunders for the hat trick to lead the Hawks to their 6-3 victory. Czukoski got the win in net for the Hawks, making 36 saves, while Saunders took the loss with 43 saves, allowing two power play goals on six attempts for Saint Anselm.
