WINCHENDON, Mass. -- Senior goalie Jill Hertl stymied the Post University Women's Ice Hockey offense on Friday night, earning her second shutout of the season for Franklin Pierce University after making 39 saves in a 2-0 win for the Ravens at home. The shutout loss was the ninth of the season for the Eagles as they have now dropped four of their last five games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a night where the Eagle offense had numerous opportunities to cash in against Hertl in a battle of senior goaltenders that saw senior goalie
Hannah Saunders make 24 saves for Post while Hertl made 39 saves en route to her shutout win. No scoring would come out of a first period that saw the Eagles have two power play chances and the Ravens have one, but the shot totals heavily favored the visitors by a wide 16-6 margin.
The even play would continue into the second period with shot totals leveling out to eight apiece, despite three power plays for Franklin Pierce to just one for Post. Those three chances for the Ravens netted them just four shots against Saunders, with the final one being wiped out after 26 seconds because of a penalty issued to Hertl for tripping. That would lead to a 4-on-4 situation in which a costly neutral zone turnover by the Eagles led to the eventual game-winning goal.
Freshman forward Addison Andre made the most of her chance, scoring her eighth goal of the season as she beat Saunders on the left side of the net, sending Franklin Pierce into the third and final period with a 1-0 lead. In that frame, Post garnered another four man-up advantages, one of which would be a brief 5-on-3 power play for 19 seconds with just over five minutes left in regulation. However, junior defenseman Jenna Sharland was charged with two penalties for hooking and unsportsmanlike conduct, making it a four-minute power play at the 5:03 mark.
With Saunders pulled from the net, Post's offense hammered Hertl for five shots to no avail in breaking through with the game-tying goal. Junior forward Emma LaRoche would gather a loose puck near the neutral zone and shoot towards the empty net, but it would go off the pipe. After Post gathered the shot looking to push it up ice, a poke check by sophomore forward Brynn Levinson resulted in another critical turnover by the Eagles and the game-sealing empty net goal on a 2-0 win for the Ravens.
