#15 Men's Soccer Opens Post Kick Off Invitational with Tie Against AIC

WATERBURY, Conn. -- All the scoring happened in just 41 seconds in the opening game of the Post University Kick Off Invitational between #15 Post University Men's Soccer and American International College (AIC) on Thursday at LaMoy Field. Two first-half goals resulted in a 1-1 tie for the Eagles to start their 2025 campaign.

THE BASICS

#15 Post University 1, American International College 1

#15 Post University (0-0-1)

American International College (0-0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After 21 quiet minutes from both teams, the Yellow Jackets took their only shot of the first half. Graduate forward Joseph Albano caromed a pass into the box that bounced off Simba Pelletier's foot and back to the top of the box.

Junior midfielder Tyler Ferreira seized the opportunity and froze goalkeeper Leopold Dufaut to give the Yellow Jackets a brief 1-0 lead. Just 41 seconds later, an AIC foul in the box sent graduate midfielder Pablo Tenorio to take the game-tying penalty kick. This would end up being the last goal of the match.

Despite an overall 18-5 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal, both Dufaut and freshman goalkeeper Javier Sola Martinez stood tall in net to keep their opposition off the board, and the game was tied at one. Post's offense manufactured 11 second-half shots with Sola Martinez making five saves, while also generating five corner kicks overall, four of which came in the second half.

Two yellow cards would be awarded in the final 10 minutes of play as freshman midfielder Gregor Schillinger and sophomore forward Pietro Botasso were each issued cautions about five and a half minutes apart from each other for AIC.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Leopold Dufaut finished the game with three saves on four total attempts faced from AIC in the tie
  • Making his first collegiate start, Javier Sola Martinez had seven saves on eight tries by Post University, with the lone goal coming on the first-half penalty kick
  • After dropping their first five matches in the all-time series against AIC, Post University has gone 4-0-2 in the last five matches, which have all come from 2011 to 2025
