Dufaut's Third Shutout, Feler's Goal Lift Men's Soccer to First Win in 10 Years Against Franklin Pierce University

WATERBURY, Conn. – It had been 10 years since Post University Men's Soccer had beaten Franklin Pierce University, with the last win coming on October 7th, 2015, on the road in a 2-0 win. On Saturday, the seven-game losing streak against the Ravens, which featured five consecutive shutout losses, came to an end as graduate forward Tiago Feler's first-half goal was all the Eagles needed to hold off Franklin Pierce for a 1-0 win at home, pushing their unbeaten streak to six matches to start the season.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Franklin Pierce University 0

Post University (3-0-3)

Franklin Pierce University (3-2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Feler, who only played 23 minutes off the bench, scored in the 35th minute on a play that started with a throw-in on the offensive side of the pitch. After freshman defender Pedro Vercosa tapped the ball to senior midfielder Markus Boe Tunge on the right sideline, Boe Tunge made a move towards the end line, where he would slip and fall as the ball started to roll out of bounds. Sliding to stop it, the senior was able to keep it just inside the field of play, push it in front to Feler, who beat senior goalkeeper David Skorodumov for the lone goal of the affair.

Not to be forgotten, junior goalkeeper Leopold Dufaut, coming off back-to-back CACC Goalkeeper of the Week nods, recorded his third consecutive shutout for the Eagles in net as he is now 3-0-3 in goal for Post so far this season. Dufaut had to make a career-high 13 saves against a Ravens team that, when he faced them a year ago, allowed two goals in 63:43 with only three saves when the Ravens were the top team in the country.

Post's defense continued to impress as freshman defender Agnaldo Germano played all 90 minutes for the seventh consecutive match, while graduate defender Iago Rodriguez has done the same in the last four matches. As a defense, the Eagles have allowed just three goals this season in six matches, allowing an average of 0.50 goals per game. A close second half offensively for both teams, with Franklin Pierce leading 5-4 in shots turned in the Raven offense exploded for 16 shots, 11 of which were directed at Dufaut, as the visitors ended the game with a 21-6 edge in shots and a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Leopold Dufaut stretches his shutout streak to three consecutive games after stopping all 13 shots he faced from Franklin Pierce University
  • Unbeaten through six games to start the season, this is the best start Post University has had since 2011, when they were unbeaten through nine matches
  • Post University's unbeaten streak has been extended to nine consecutive games dating back to the start of the NCAA Tournament last fall
  • Defeating Franklin Pierce University, this was the first time since 2015 that Post University beat the Ravens, snapping a seven-game losing streak against them, and with the first-half goal, snapped a five-game streak in which they had been held scoreless by Franklin Pierce

WHO'S NEXT
Diving deep into conference play, Post University hits LaMoy Field this Wednesday at 3:30 PM to take on Dominican (N.Y.). The Eagles will look to extend their 11-game winning streak in the head-to-head series, which started with a 2-1 win back on September 30th, 2015.
