Women's Ice Hockey Shut Out by RIT in First Road Game of the Season

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman forward Kolbee Ashe started off her collegiate career with a two-point game for RIT after scoring a goal and recording an assist on the only two goals of the evening for the Tigers as Post University Women's Ice Hockey dropped their third consecutive game to start the 2025-26 season, 2-0, in their Friday night road matchup.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, RIT 2

Post University (0-3-0)

RIT (1-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Nothing would find the back of the net for either team through the opening 20 minutes of action as senior goalie Hannah Saunders stopped all 11 shots she faced for Post, going toe-to-toe with fellow senior goalie Sophia Bellina, who made three saves. RIT held an overall edge of 25-4 in total shots, but 10 blocked shots by the Eagle defense helped keep the game scoreless.

Right as the horn sounded on the first, junior defenseman Emma Pickering was called for interference, sending Post into the second period with their first power play of the game. That penalty would be the start of the frame in which five total penalties were called between both sides for a combined 18 total penalty minutes.

Making the most of one of those man-up advantages, sophomore forward Ireland Stein found some space in front of Saunders with the help of Ashe and freshman defenseman Laura Dyke near the halfway point of the second to give the Tigers their first of two goals in the second. Ashe would rocket home the second goal with under a minute to go, carrying RIT to that 2-0 lead with a period left.

Despite a pair of power-play chances for RIT in the third, Saunders would make all 14 stops she needed to, keeping the Tigers' lead at two goals until the horn as the Post offense was unable to solve Bellina, who made 13 saves, including only three in both the first and third periods. Junior forward Jodie Rose had a strong day in the faceoff dot, winning 8-of-13 draws to help the Eagles win 23-of-43 faceoffs overall in the 2-0 defeat.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Hannah Saunders finished the game with a season-high 38 saves for Post University on 40 shot attempts from RIT
  • Sophia Bellina is now 2-0-0 in net for RIT when facing Post University, with this being her first shutout victory after making 13 saves tonight -- Bellina had 12 saves against the Eagles back on January 3rd in the Sports Center of Connecticut
  • Kolbee Ashe started off her collegiate career in style, being a part of both RIT goals, scoring one and assisting on the other, to finish with a team-best two points in her debut
  • Post University falls to 0-3-0 in the all-time series against RIT, with this being the first time they have been shut out by the Tigers
