RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Nearly three weeks ago, junior transfer forward
Aidan Tross scored what would have been his first goal of the season with Post University Men's Soccer against Adelphi University before thunderstorms ended the game at halftime. On Wednesday afternoon, against #22 Felician University, Tross's score would count as the Utrecht native found the back of the net in the second half to help the Eagles push their unbeaten streak to eight consecutive games dating back to last season with a 1-0 upset win over the Golden Falcons.
THE BASICS
Post University 1, #22 Felician University 0
Post University (2-0-3, 2-0-0 CACC)
#22 Felician University (3-2-1, 1-1-0 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
As was the case in all three of their matchups last season, Wednesday's matchup seemed to be a repeat as both teams were evenly matched basically throughout the entire 90 minutes of action. Each side totaled up exactly nine shots overall and four shots on goal when all was set and done, with a difference of only two corners going in favor of Post by a 5-3 margin.
Junior goalkeeper
Leopold Dufaut continued his dominant start to the season as he remains unbeaten in net through the first five matches of the season for the Eagles. Dufaut, who was named CACC Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week on Monday, made four saves for his second straight shutout this year and now holds a 2-0-3 record.
The Eagles would end up playing the final 14:12 of the match with a man-up advantage as a pair of cards issued to senior forward Odhran Lawlor knocked him out of the game, making it an 11-on-10 match the rest of the way. Dufaut would only need to make one more save during that final stretch in a match where the Golden Falcons totaled up five yellow cards as a team and one red card.
Junior goalkeeper Mathias Kristoffersen nearly matched Dufaut on the day, making three saves in goal, with Tross's goal being the only one he was unable to stop. That shot came in the 51st minute off an initial save by Kristoffersen, which led to the ball caroming to Tross for the tap-in goal, giving Post their second straight victory, 1-0.
