Bailey Dickenson Hits First Home Run of Season, Softball Swept by Dominican (N.Y.)

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. –  In hopes of winning their first conference game of the season, Post University Softball fell short in their road doubleheader against Dominican (N.Y.) on Tuesday afternoon with a pair of 11-3 decisions. The Eagles entered both of the final innings within striking distance before allowing five runs in the fifth inning of game one and seven runs in the sixth inning of game two to end the affairs with the eight-run mercy rule.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Post University 3, Dominican (N.Y.) 11 (5 Innings)

Bailey Dickenson hit her first home run and the team's first home run of the 2025 season, breaking a 26-game stretch in which the Eagles did not have a round tripper. That two-run shot was part of a three-run inning for Post, who trailed 4-0 entering the frame, as freshman utility player Angelica Tompkins drove in the third run via her RBI double to right.

Junior right-hander Emily Baxter eclipsed the 100-strikeout mark for the season in her start for Dominican (N.Y.), earning her eighth win of the season after striking out 12 batters and walking only one while allowing those three runs on four hits. The Lady Charger offense came alive to the tune of 11 runs on 13 hits against senior right-hander Alyssa Hughes across her five innings of work, in which she had two strikeouts and a walk.
Freshman outfielder Kindel Johnson went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored while senior second baseman Toni-Jo Lopez was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, RBI, and run scored in the victory. Johnson was one of five Lady Chargers with two hits in the game, while seven different players finished with at least one run batted in.

With Post trailing 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the bats did the damage for the Lady Chargers, all with two outs to force the eight-run mercy rule. Five straight hits, capped off by Johnson's three-run home run, would give Dominican (N.Y.) their 11-3 victory in walk-off fashion, pulling them within one game of the .500 mark in conference play.

Game 2: Post University 3, Dominican (N.Y.) 11 (6 Innings)
Sophomore left-hander Devin Barnett started off strong in her first four innings of work, allowing just two runs and two hits, with both runs coming in the second inning. The Lady Chargers' lead would come on an RBI single from junior outfielder Emily Angulo and a ground out by Lopez before Post took their first lead of the doubleheader in the top of the fifth with a three-spot similar to game one.

Once again doing the damage were both Tompkins and Bailey Dickenson, accounting for all three Post runs to give them a 3-2 lead against freshman right-hander Victoria Iorio. But the lead would be short-lived with Dominican (N.Y.) striking back for two runs in the bottom of the frame as an overthrow from junior catcher Brianna Hynds on a sacrifice by senior shortstop Chloe McIntosh tied the game at three before senior outfielder Emma Kaszovitz's RBI double gave the Lady Chargers the lead for good.

Working their way to a mercy rule against Barnett in the sixth inning, the left-hander would be unable to get a single out as seven runs came across the plate courtesy of five hits and two Post errors, bringing their total to four for the game and six on the day, giving the Lady Chargers their second 11-3 win of the afternoon. Lopez had another strong game at the plate with a 1-for-1 day in which she had a double, three RBIs, two sacrifices, and a run scored.
