WATERBURY, Conn. – It was the Alyssa and Allysa show at LaMoy Field on Wednesday afternoon for Post University Softball as senior right-hander
Alyssa Hughes and sophomore right-hander
Allysa Calabrese dominated for the Eagles in their doubleheader against Bloomfield College, snapping Post's 13-game losing streak and giving them its first doubleheader sweep since the end of the 2023 season.
Hughes' 4-0 shutout win in game one marked the first time in her collegiate career that she threw a complete-game shutout. Calabrese went 3-for-3 in game two, and her solid pitching performance capped off the sweep with a 6-4 victory in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 4, Bloomfield College 0
Hughes' first shutout of her collegiate career came in what was her 53rd career appearance for the Eagles in game one. The senior threw seven shutout innings, allowing just six hits while striking out five and walking two in her first victory of the season.
All four of Post's runs came in the first three innings as senior third baseman
Nyla Sapia hit a no-doubt home run over the left field wall off of junior right-hander Kate Juskiewicz in the first, giving the Eagles a quick 1-0 lead. Senior infielder
Brooke Dickenson provided the rest of the offense with her bases-clearing double in the third, which also knocked Juskiewicz from the game.
Senior pitcher Jillian Holmes mowed through the final 3 2/3 innings of the affair for the Bears, just allowing two batters to reach via a pair of singles, while allowing no runners to get into scoring position. As a team, Post manufactured just five hits offensively, and defensively did not get credit with an error while allowing none of the six runners in scoring position for Bloomfield to cross home.
Game 2: Post University 6, Bloomfield College 4
Calabrese's big 3-for-3 afternoon in game two with three runs scored helped complement her pitching performance en route to the 6-4 win for the Eagles. Calabrese pitched all seven innings of her outing, throwing only 69 pitches while allowing four runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Freshman utility player
Alexandra Bisceglia helped the sophomore come across the plate for Post's first run of the game following her second-inning triple off of sophomore pitcher Rayn Romero.
Romero, who fell to 0-13 for Bloomfield this year, threw all six innings while allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts, three walks, and three wild pitches. Two of those three wild pitches would lead to two runs for the Eagles in the fourth inning as part of their four-run inning, while freshman utility player
Hannah Searles reached safely on an error and
Brooke Dickenson drove in her fourth run of the afternoon between the two games to open up a 6-0 lead for Post.
But the Bears would not go away quietly as freshman outfielder Jadenalia Rodriguez's RBI double and an RBI single from Holmes cut the Eagle lead down to four runs, 6-2, before Juskiewicz's two-run homer with nobody out in the seventh threatened Post's chances at the doubleheader conference sweep. After Romero singled to put the tying run at the plate, junior catcher
Brianna Hynds would throw her out trying to steal second while Calabrese set down the next two batters, putting an end to the threat and sending the Eagles to their second straight win.
