Softball Swept in Senior Day Showdown Against Holy Family University

WATERBURY, Conn. – Honoring its five seniors before they took the field on Sunday afternoon at LaMoy Field, Post University Softball looked to continue its two-game winning streak against Holy Family University, but came up short in both affairs against the Tigers. After making a comeback attempt in game one, a five-run inning for Holy Family led them to an 8-3 victory in game one before the bats came alive in game two to finish off the sweep, 14-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Post University 3, Holy Family University 8
Senior infielder Bailey Dickenson, who was one of the seniors honored before the game, accounted for all three runs that the Eagles scored in game one via her two-run single in the third as well as her solo home run in the fifth, which helped tie the game up at three all. Holy Family initially jumped out to a 3-0 lead against sophomore right-hander Devin Barnett on an RBI ground out from senior shortstop Kylee Jones and a two-run single by junior infielder Gina Olivieri before Post worked its way back into the game.

But the Tigers mounted an immediate response with a five-run top of the sixth inning, proving to be the difference maker in the contest as senior second baseman Carlie Miller's RBI double was the start of four run-scoring hits. Jones, Olivieri, and junior catcher Madison Grubb drove in the other four runs featured in the inning to help lead Holy Family to the 8-3 win. Barnett, who fell to 0-8 on the season, pitched all seven innings and allowed eight runs on 13 hits with one hit batter and a wild pitch.

After sophomore pitcher Kinsley Hall lasted only 4 1/3 innings for the Tigers, being lifted after Bailey Dickenson tied the game with her home run, sophomore pitcher Molly Moore shut down the Eagles over the final 2 2/3 innings to earn her eighth win of the season. Moore allowed no hits in her appearance while striking out and walking two Post batters as the Eagles finished with just four hits offensively.

Game 2: Post University 1, Holy Family University 14
Senior first baseman Sam Ciasullo led the offensive charge for the Tigers in game two, going 3-for-5 at the dish with a two-run home run in the first inning to help Holy Family to their early 3-0 lead against senior right-hander Alyssa Hughes. Both Hughes and junior pitcher Paige Tidaback, who took the mound for the visitors, threw exactly 130 pitches across their seven innings of work, with Tidaback getting the better of the senior on her way to her fourth win of the season.

Coming off her first collegiate shutout, Hughes allowed 21 hits scattered across her seven innings of work while allowing 13 runs, striking out three batters, and walking two as she fell to 1-6 on the mound this season. Post's lone run against Tidaback came in the second on a single by freshman outfielder Hannah Searles, which briefly cut the deficit to three runs, before Holy Family's 10-run outburst over the final four innings.

Tidaback's day saw her allow that one run on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout, while her team's offense saw every player who got up to the plate either record a hit or score a run. Senior outfielder Rylee Hobel was 4-for-4 in the game with an RBI double, as part of a 6-for-8 afternoon, while Ciasullo and sophomore infielder Jaden Kelly each had three hits, a combined five RBIs, and four runs scored in the 14-1 win.

Searles, freshman infielder Angelica Tompkins, and freshman infielder Alexandra Bisceglia each recorded two hits offensively for the Eagles.
