Christiana's Gem in Game One Helps Baseball Earn Split Against Felician in Sunday's Road Doubleheader

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – On a Sunday defined by pitching duels, Post University Baseball took its second straight game against Felician University behind a gem from graduate right-hander Joe Christiana in game one, 4-2, before being stifled in game two by the pitching of the Golden Falcons as the two sides split their second doubleheader of the week with Felician's 3-1 victory in game two. After the weekend, Post now has a two-game lead in the loss column on both the Golden Falcons and Dominican (N.Y.), who currently sit in second and third with six losses each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Post University 4, Felician University 2

Christiana and freshman right-hander CJ Pierce dominated across the nine-inning affair for the Eagles as the graduate student moved to 4-0 on the mound this year and to 22 career wins, tying Nick Arnold (2015-18) for the most in program history. Christiana worked eight innings, throwing 94 pitches en route to allowing only two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a hit batter.

Nailing down his fifth save of the 2025 campaign, Pierce spun a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning of work on just 14 pitches as Post pitching combined to throw 108 pitches in the game, less than senior right-hander Logan Waltz threw in his start for Felician in game one. Waltz lasted six innings for the Golden Falcons, allowing Post to score four runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts, three hit batters, and two walks on 113 pitches, taking his first loss of the season.

Senior first baseman Chris Corchado gave Felician an early 1-0 advantage with his RBI ground out in the opening frame, but a four-spot in the second inning by the Eagles would prove to be all the offense they needed. Graduate outfielder Jaylen Kelley tied the game up with his RBI double, and a two-out throwing error from junior infielder Matthew Scrivanic proved costly, plating two more runs for Post to take a 3-1 lead.

The final run of the day allowed by Waltz came on a walk issued to senior utility player Damaurys Rodriguez, who extended his on-base streak to 13 straight games with the free pass. Meanwhile, Christiana would not allow a runner to reach scoring position until his final inning of work in the eighth on a leadoff double from senior outfielder Christian Bauman, leading to Felician's only other run via sacrifice fly from junior catcher Luis DeLaCruz.

In addition to Rodriguez extending his on-base streak, the same would ring true for sophomore infielder Jesse Alfalla, who, with his walk as well as a single in the 4-2 victory, has now successfully reached base in all 25 games he has played in so far this season for the Eagles.

Game 2: Post University 1, Felician University 3 (7 Innings)
Despite loading up the bases twice across seven innings, the Eagle offense would only be able to squeak one run across the dish in their 3-1 loss to Felician, splitting the Sunday afternoon doubleheader. After leading off the game with a single to extend his on-base streak to 26 consecutive games, Alfalla would get caught trying to steal second with two outs and sophomore right-hander Johnny Gilligan on the bump.

Gilligan would pick up his second win of the season after spinning five shutout innings for the Golden Falcons, allowing two hits, striking out three, and walking three in his 81-pitch outing. Post's only run of the game would come in the sixth with the bases loaded when sophomore right-hander Gavin Enright threw a wild pitch with two outs, scoring freshman infielder Rene Vega III, before retiring Kelley with a ground out to short.

The Eagles also loaded the bases up against Gilligan in the fifth with two outs after back-to-back walks from the sophomore, before he got Alfalla to ground out to him for the final out of the frame. Junior infielder Haiden Walters, Corchado, and junior infielder Ernesto Polanco were responsible for the three Felician runs of the game, all of which came off of sophomore right-hander Jake Baumann. Baumann, who fell to 2-3 this season, threw all six innings in which he allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a hit batter.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jesse Alfalla reached base safely in both games for Post University today, extending his on-base streak to all 26 games he has played for the Eagles so far this season
  • Damaurys Rodriguez also continued his on-base streak, reaching safely in 13 straight games for Post University
  • Winning game one to move to 4-0 on the season, Joe Christiana has tied the program record for most career wins with 22 alongside Nick Arnold (2015-18)
  • Justin Rivera finishes the week for Post University, having batted .304 with a 7-for-23 performance, which led to two doubles, 10 RBIs, and a walk

WHO'S NEXT
Post University has a midweek matchup slated for Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 PM against Holy Family University at Municipal Stadium. In the first-ever meetings between the two teams last season, the Eagles won both games of the doubleheader in seven innings, 13-1 and 3-0. Last season marked the first year in program history in which the Tigers had a Baseball program at the institution.
