HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 1, Chestnut Hill College 9 (6 Innings)
Sophomore right-hander
Devin Barnett walked the first three batters she faced in the game as part of five walks allowed in the first inning to Chestnut Hill, leading to a six-run opening frame for the Griffins. Senior outfielder Kayla Rolon doubled in two runs, followed by a wild pitch from Barnett scoring another, while a two-run single by senior first baseman Anastasia Watson and a sacrifice fly by freshman shortstop Christina Contreras did the damage en route to a 6-0 lead.
Freshman utility player
Hannah Searles accounted for the only Post run of the ballgame in the second with her RBI double in the second off of freshman right-hander Isabelle Tetreault in the six-inning mercy rule after two more RBIs in the second and sixth by Watson gave the Griffins their eight-run edge, 9-1. On the mound, Tetreault picked up her fifth win of the season after allowing one run on four hits with eight strikeouts, two walks, and a hit batter.
Barnett's day saw her pitch five innings in which she gave up all nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits with eight walks, six wild pitches, and one hit batter in her sixth loss of the season. Watson's four-RBI day for the Griffins saw her go 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk as one of three Chestnut Hill players with a multi-hit game, along with Rolon and senior infielder Skyler Cunningham.
Game 2: Post University 7, Chestnut Hill College 9
A four-spot in the first inning by the Eagles looked to help them take their first game in 10 tries, as senior third baseman
Nyla Sapia and sophomore utility player
Allysa Calabrese each had RBI singles to set the tone early for Post. Freshman third baseman Alauna Kelley's throwing error plated the other two runs with freshman utility player Aneglica Tompkins at the dish, while the Griffins got one back in the bottom half of the frame on a couple of errors from freshman utility
Alexandra Bisceglia and Tompkins.
Sapia, who had a 3-for-3 performance in game two with a double, two RBIs two runs scored, and a walk, added onto Post's lead with her second-inning double along with senior infielder
Bailey Dickenson's RBI single, ballooning the lead to a game-high five runs, 6-1, before the Griffins began their slow comeback against senior right-hander
Alyssa Hughes. Scoring the next four runs of the affair in the next two innings, the lead for Post dwindled down to one before freshman outfielder
Isabella Oliver's RBI ground out gave the Eagles an insurance run, 7-5, in the fifth inning, which would end up being short-lived.
Tying it up in the bottom of the fifth was senior outfielder Amaris Guzman with her two-run single, while an RBI single from Rolon and error by senior infielder
Brooke Dickenson in the sixth gave the Griffins their first lead of the game, 9-7, which they held on to for their first-ever doubleheader sweep of the Eagles. Senior outfielder Camille Dunham was a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored for Chestnut Hill, while, in addition to Sapia, Oliver showed out with a 3-for-5 showing in game two with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored.
