WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior right-hander Janelle Blaszka threw her second collegiate no-hitter and the first seven-inning no-hitter for Georgian Court University in game one against Post University Softball in the Eagles' home doubleheader finale against the Lions as part of a 1-0 win that gave way to an offensive slugfest in game two. Georgian Court would take game two, 11-7, sweeping by Post, who has now lost eight straight games, and has two games remaining in their 2025 campaign, this Wednesday at 2:30 PM on the road against Bentley University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 0, Georgian Court University 1
The Lions would leave 11 runners on base against senior right-hander
Alyssa Hughes, scrapping across just one run on nine hits to lead them to a narrow 1-0 win. Georgian Court threatened immediately in the first with a runner on third and two outs, but even more so with the bases loaded and two outs in the second, when junior infielder Kaylin Curro lined out to freshman outfielder
Isabella Oliver to quell the opportunity.
In all but the sixth and seventh innings, the Lions would have runners in scoring position and once again load the bases with two outs in the fifth, but graduate catcher Mikayla LaPlaca grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning. Georgian Court's lone run came in the fourth with two outs as a double by senior outfielder Kristy Regalado, followed by an RBI triple from junior outfielder Lia DeMaio drove in Regalado, which was all the run support that Blaszka needed.
En route to her first seven-inning no-hitter, Blaszka allowed only senior third baseman
Nyla Sapia to reach base via her first-inning walk with two outs, otherwise, she would be perfect the rest of the way. The closest the Eagles would come to a hit was senior infielder
Bailey Dickenson's pop-up into shallow center in which Curro backpedaled and the ball popped out of her glove before she recovered to basket catch it and end the inning. Besides her eight strikeouts, Blaszka manufactured 12 fly outs to only one ground out for the remainder of the outs she retired in her gem.
Game 2: Post University 7, Georgian Court University 11
Two big innings would be the difference maker in game two as the Lions put up a six-run third inning and a four-run sixth inning, which dealt the damage en route to their 11-run offensive explosion in the 11-7 decision. Junior catcher
Brianna Hynds gave the Eagles the lead with her two-run single in the first, part of a stretch in which Post had three consecutive hits with two outs after being held hitless for the first 7 2/3 innings of the day.
Freshman utility player
Angelica Tompkins would add to the lead against sophomore right-hander Julia Lapp with her RBI triple to left, but after two perfect innings on the mound for sophomore left-hander
Devin Barnett, the Lion offense would get to her in the third to the tune of that six-run frame. Despite that, Post would pull within one, 7-6, after
Bailey Dickenson reached on a fielder's choice via error from sophomore infielder Cheyenne Jackson, and RBI singles from sophomore utility player
Allysa Calabrese and Oliver.
However, Jackson would make up for her fielding mishap in the sixth with an RBI double to spark that four-run sixth inning as the Eagles were unable to overcome that five-run deficit, falling 11-7 in game two. Freshman infielder Brooklyn Ragland finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored as she was one of three players with a multi-hit game for the Lions. Tompkins, Calabrese, and senior infielder
Brooke Dickenson each had two-hit games, with Calabrese also driving in two runs in the loss.
Freshman right-hander Lillian Noyes picked up her second win of the season on the mound for Georgian Court, relieving Lapp for the final five innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Despite one of her best starts this season, Alyssa Hughes took the loss in game one after allowing only one run on nine hits across seven innings with two walks, a hit batter, and a wild pitch
- Janelle Blaszka threw her second career no-hitter in game one, walking only one batter while striking out eight -- Blaszka had a five-inning no-hitter during her freshman year, and it was Georgian Court's first seven-inning no-hitter since 2022 when Mikayla Gilgert did so in the first game of that campaign
- Post University has been no-hit six times in the last two seasons, as they were no-hit in the first game of the season as well as today in game one and four times last year
- Getting swept in the doubleheader today, Post University will finish the season with its fewest wins in program history, as last season they had seven wins and enter the final doubleheader of the season with just four wins
WHO'S NEXT
Post University closes out the 2025 season on Wednesday afternoon when they head north to Bentley University for a doubleheader starting at 2:30 PM. This will be the first doubleheader between the two teams since 2009, when the Falcons swept through the Eagles, but the first matchup overall since 2023, when Post lost 7-3. Since that 2009 doubleheader, Post and Bentley have met four times in neutral-site games, splitting them two games each.
