Brooke Dickenson Continues Hot Streak for Softball, Eagles Swept by Golden Falcons

WATERBURY, Conn. –  Senior infielder Brooke Dickenson continued her hot stretch of hitting for Post University Softball, driving in two runs across the Wednesday afternoon doubleheader at LaMoy Field, but 25 combined runs across both games of the doubleheader for the Golden Falcons would lead them past the Eagles, dropping them to 2-14 in conference play and six games out of the final playoff spot in the CACC Tournament with only six conference games remaining in their season.

THE BASICS

Post University 8, Felician University 14

Post University 0, Felician University 11 (6 Innings)

Post University (4-30, 2-14 CACC)

Felician University (14-30, 7-11 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Post University 8, Felician University 14

Senior right-hander Alyssa Hughes would take the mound for the second straight day and go the distance, but the Felician offense would tag her for 14 runs in the process. Junior outfielder Mikayla Brown's two-run triple and sophomore infielder Kimberly Torres' two-run home run put the Golden Falcons up by four immediately to start the game before the Eagles answered back with three runs in the second.

Making the most of two Felician miscues, Brooke Dickenson plated a run after sophomore outfielder Macie Jacquet dropped a fly ball in right, then two runs came across on a fielder's choice by freshman utility player Hannah Searles, making it a 4-3 game.

The Golden Falcons would go on to score 10 unanswered runs, opening up a 14-3 edge heading into the bottom of the sixth before the Eagles answered back with a five-run frame. Five runs on six hits against junior pitcher Riley Williams and freshman pitcher Skye Limardo kept the game alive for another inning, as five different Post players drove in runs and threatened for more with two outs and the bases loaded.

Limardo would go on to retire freshman utility player Alexandra Bisceglia to end the inning and allow only freshman outfielder Isabella Oliver to reach in the seventh, shutting down the game for the Golden Falcons in game one.

Torres drove in a game-high five runs after going 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double, as well as three runs scored and a walk for Felician. Using a 1-for-4 game, Brown drove in three runs of her own via her triple and sacrifice fly as the duo accounted for eight of the 12 RBIs that the Golden Falcons produced.

Game 2: Post University 0, Felician University 11 (6 Innings)
Speeding through the first three innings in only 30 minutes, both junior pitcher Jocelyn Moody and sophomore left-hander Devin Barnett dueled it out against each other, allowing two hits apiece throughout those frames while having pitch counts in the low 30s. Junior outfielder Hannah Ramirez for the Golden Falcons and Bisceglia for the Eagles accounted for the only extra-base hits for either side up to that point, with neither team getting on the board.

That scoreless tie would be broken up in a big way during the fourth inning as Felician posted a five-spot against Barnett, due in part to three errors by the Post defense. Sophomore first baseman Layla Albarran kicked off the scoring with her RBI double, while junior utility player Aria Reyes tacked on another with an RBI triple immediately afterwards. Two of the three errors in the inning would allow runners to come in for the Golden Falcons, as the five-run inning would end up pacing them to the doubleheader sweep in six innings.

Throwing a combined shutout for Felician, Moody, junior pitcher Mallory Shevlin, and Williams allowed seven hits scattered across those six innings, striking out five batters, and walking three on a total of 108 pitches together. Falling to 0-9 on the season, Barnett allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 14 hits with four walks and a wild pitch as the Golden Falcons tagged her for six more runs in the sixth inning to enforce the eight-run mercy rule in the frame.

Mirroring the performance by Torres in game one, Albarran went 2-for-4 with five RBIs via her double and home run, while also scoring once in the 11-0 shutout win. In all, six Golden Falcon hitters finished with multi-hit games as part of the 14-hit attack, while Bisceglia and sophomore utility player Allysa Calabrese each had two hits. Bisceglia was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and a walk in the 11-0 loss.
