HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 0, Wilmington University 7
Graduate pitcher Delani Sheehan took a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the Eagles, allowing only one runner to reach base via a leadoff walk in the fifth to senior infielder
Bailey Dickenson. Freshman outfielder
Isabella Oliver broke up the no-hit bid with two outs in the sixth on her single to left, which would end up being the lone hit of the game for Post.
Sheehan would throw 6 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, striking out 12 Eagles and walking one in Dickenson during the fifth before freshman pitcher Kasey Xenidis polished off the final 2/3 innings in the 7-0 win for the Wildcats.
Senior catcher Bella Barnes went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored while five Wilmington hitters finished with multi-hit games. The only other Wildcat to have two RBIs in the win was freshman outfielder Maddie Vollmar, who finished the day 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs, and a run scored.
Senior right-hander
Alyssa Hughes pitched all seven innings in the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits with three strikeouts and two walks, falling to 0-3 on the season while Sheehan's win pushed her to 5-5 on the mound.
Game 2: Post University 2, Wilmington University 16 (5 Innings)
Breaking that hitless streak at seven games, Hynds would single home the first of two runs for the Eagles against senior pitcher Kylee Gunkel, giving Post a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Freshman utility player
Hannah Searles brought in the second run via a fielder's choice before Wilmington answered back with 16 unanswered runs to take the doubleheader sweep, 16-2.
After two scoreless innings, sophomore left-hander
Devin Barnett would allow nine runs over the next two innings and eventually be lifted for Hughes in the fifth inning without recording an out. Barnett finished the game allowing 13 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits with five walks, two hit batters, and one wild pitch. Rain would delay the game in the third inning with Post trailing 5-2 and runners on first and second for senior infielder
Brooke Dickenson, who would strike out against Gunkel to end the threat.
Senior outfielder Tristan Stewart and graduate catcher Emma Zimmerman each finished with three-hit games as Stewart went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, a stolen base, and a run scored while Zimmerman was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Following up her impressive game one performance, Vollmar was 2-for-5 with a double, triple, RBI, and two runs scored as part of a 16-hit attack by the Wildcats, which led to 16 runs and was also aided by three Post errors.
