VIERA, Fla. – Freshman utility player
Hannah Searles got her first collegiate hit and run batted in for Post University Softball in their spring break finale down in Viera, Florida, but the Eagles were unable to sustain their winning ways from earlier in the day, falling 5-1 to Saint Anselm College on Wednesday afternoon.
When Post returns to Connecticut, they will kick off conference play next Tuesday, facing the University of Bridgeport on the road in hopes of starting their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on a high note.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman right-hander
Meghan McGurk got the ball for the matchup and would split the six innings on the mound with sophomore right-hander
Allysa Calabrese whose seven-inning shutout earlier in the afternoon gave the Eagles their first win of the season. McGurk's three innings would see her allow four runs (three earned) on five hits with five walks and a strikeout while Calabrese dominated again in her three innings with only one run on one hit with one walk and one hit batter on her line.
Sophomore left-hander Sam Ryan would not be denied her second complete-game win against Post down in Florida as she went the distance allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts to move to 6-0 this season, accounting for over half of the wins for Saint Anselm so far this year.
That one run Ryan would allow came in the second inning to Searles, whose RBI double was both the first hit and first run batted in for her in her young collegiate career. Searles was one of four Post hitters who reached base in the game as Calabrese went 2-for-3 with two singles while freshman utility player
Angelica Tompkins and junior catcher
Brianna Hynds each had the other two singles.
Senior outfielder Audrey Arsenault ran the offense for the Hawks, going 1-for-2 with her first-inning, two-run double that gave her team the lead for the jump against McGurk as well as a walk and three RBIs following her sixth-inning sacrifice fly. Senior catcher Alyssa Wironen went 2-for-2 with an RBI single while senior first baseman Sam Wiberg accounted for the other Hawk run, going 1-for-2 with her RBI double, two walks, and a run scored in the 5-1 win for Saint Anselm.
BY THE NUMBERS

- Bailey Dickenson's three-game hitting streak was snapped after an 0-for-3 showing in the second game of the day, but Dickenson still has recorded a hit in seven of the last ten games for Post University
- Sam Ryan defeated Post University for the second time in four days, going all seven innings and allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts -- Ryan is now 6-0 on the mound this season
- The two games that Post University played against Saint Anselm College this week in Florida were the first two in the all-time history since the 2016 season
WHO'S NEXT
Upon returning from Florida, Post University opens up conference play against the University of Bridgeport on the road next Tuesday with game one scheduled to get underway at 2:30 PM. The Eagles have not beaten the Purple Knights since they joined the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and have lost seven in a row to them since their five-inning win back in 2018 at home, 14-5.
