HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons jumped out to a 7-0 lead right away against sophomore left-hander
Devin Barnett as six first-inning walks and three wild pitches helped the Eckerd offense get going. Junior third baseman Ella Coiner got the scoring started with an RBI triple in which she would end up scoring on the throw to make it a 2-0 game before an error by junior catcher
Brianna Hynds extended the lead to three runs.
Following back-to-back wild pitches, scoring two more runs, RBI singles from sophomore outfielder Lex Difato and freshman infielder Julia Heter gave the Tritons their seven-run inning which allowed them to coast the rest of the way to their five-inning win via mercy rule. Tompkins would account for one of the two runs for the Eagles via her second-inning RBI single while an RBI double by
Bailey Dickenson in the third gave Post their only other run of the affair.
Sophomore right-hander Reese Founds pitched the entire game, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks to pick up her third win of the season. Barnett would get tagged with her second loss after going all five innings and allowing 16 runs on 14 hits with seven walks and a strikeout. Freshman utility player Molly Scott went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs scored, a double, and a walk to lead the way for Eckerd followed by a 2-for-4 day from sophomore outfielder Mia Hernandez with three RBIs and a run scored.
