VIERA, Fla. – Sophomore utility player
Allysa Calabrese went 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI, and a run scored for Post University Softball in their second game of the day and first-ever matchup against UT Dallas. The Post offense put up a season-high six runs but would drop their 12th straight game as a trio of five-run innings led the Comets to a 15-6 win in five innings.
THE BASICS
Post University 6, UT Dallas 15 (5 Innings)
Post University (0-12)
UT Dallas (10-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman utility player
Alexandra Bisceglia got the Eagles on the board first, reaching on a fielder's choice turned error from freshman shortstop Sarah Olenick to make it a 1-0 game before Calabrese cashed in with an infield RBI single, giving Post a two-run cushion heading into the field for the bottom of the first.
Freshman right-hander
Meghan McGurk got the start, allowing a leadoff walk to senior infielder Mikayla Hoffman that helped get the offense going for UT Dallas. Three straight singles for the Comets would lead to three runs, regaining the lead 3-2 before senior outfielder Cole Johnson closed the scoring with her two-run single with two outs as UT Dallas put up a five-spot on McGurk in the frame.
The bats would go to work in the second with five more runs for the Comets on a Hoffman RBI single, a wild pitch from McGurk, a two-run triple from senior catcher Gracelyn Taylor, and an RBI double from junior outfielder Claire Pollack, giving UT Dallas an eight-run cushion, 10-2, and ending McGurk's outing after two innings. The freshman's final line saw her give up 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts, two wild pitches, a walk, and a hit batter.
Looking to mount a response against freshman right-hander Katie Hart, junior catcher
Brianna Hynds drove in a run followed by a wild pitch bringing home senior infielder
Brooke Dickenson and RBI ground out from freshman outfielder
Isabella Oliver to get Post within five, 10-5. Hart would be pulled after that for freshman right-hander Erika Fedak who escaped the inning unharmed and put a close to the line on the game for Hart.
Hart's day would end having allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits with four strikeouts, four walks, and four wild pitches while Fedak got the win for throwing the final 1 1/3 innings in which she gave up one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Fedak's one run allowed came in the bottom of the fifth when freshman outfielder
Leah Marrero recorded her first collegiate hit and RBI to give Post their sixth run of the day.
By virtue of the eight-run mercy rule after five innings, UT Dallas would sweep their pair of games with a 15-6 victory after their five-run fourth inning against sophomore left-hander
Devin Barnett. Barnett, who threw in the game against Eckerd College, pitched two more innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on two hits with three walks, two wild pitches, and one hit batter. The Eagle defense had three errors, including one in that fourth inning, while freshman catcher Angela Hamilton, who came in as a pinch hitter, dealt the big blow with a bases-clearing triple.
