VIERA, Fla. – Rematching Southern Connecticut State University for the first of two times on their Florida trip, Post University Softball suffered their sixth shutout loss and seventh mercy rule defeat of the season, dropping to 0-10 after being taken down by the Owls, 8-0, in their final game on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore pitcher Olivia Young earned her first win of the season, holding the Eagles to one hit over her four innings of work, which saw her record six strikeouts before being lifted for freshman pitcher Kate Nickerson in the fifth. Nickerson would close out the shutout win with three strikeouts in her one inning of work along with one hit and one walk. Graduate shortstop
Katelyn Lipsky broke up what would have potentially been the second no-hitter for the Owls against Post this season with her infield single to start the fourth.
Three pitchers would hit the mound for the Eagles, who started things off with senior right-hander
Alyssa Hughes for the first two innings. Hughes allowed six runs on eight hits with two walks before Lipsky came in to pitch a scoreless third inning, recording three strikeouts, and giving way to sophomore left-hander
Devin Barnett to come in for the fourth and fifth innings.
Southern Connecticut built up their six-run lead via three RBIs from graduate outfielder Rachel Miller via her solo home run and two-run double in the first and second innings respectively while freshman infielder Izzy Ingersoll's RBI triple and Young's RBI single also led the offense for the Owls.
Ingersoll would end up recording the "walk-off" hit in the fifth with her single up the middle giving Southern Connecticut an eight-run lead and putting the mercy rule in effect. The freshman finished the game 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs, and a run scored while Miller was 2-for-2 with her home run and double, which was good for three RBIs and one run scored.
Post had just three baserunners in the game courtesy of Lipsky's infield hit, a single from senior third baseman
Nyla Sapia, and a walk issued for freshman utility player
Angelica Tompkins in the 8-0 loss.
