PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – Junior midfielder
Anna D'Angelo converted on a first-quarter free-position shot for Post University Women's Lacrosse, but that would be the only offense the Eagles would be able to muster up in their 2025 season opener on the road against Chestnut Hill College on Wednesday evening. Graduate midfielder Molly Killion led the Griffins with a hat trick, scoring three times in the first half to help Chestnut Hill pick up their first win of the season, 6-1.
THE BASICS
Post University 1, Chestnut Hill College 6
Post University (0-1, 0-1 CACC)
Chestnut Hill College (1-1, 1-0 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
D'Angelo got the Eagles their first goal of the season just over five minutes into the action on a free-position shot which beat junior goalkeeper Erin McCarthy in net for the Griffins. From there on out, McCarthy would not allow another shot past her, finishing with 10 saves on 11 shots in the victory for Chestnut Hill.
Freshman midfielder Kendall Gayton led the offensive charge for the Griffins to the tune of six unanswered goals, which was all the offense they needed between the first and second quarters. Gayton closed the game with four points via two goals in the first on free-position shots, which gave Chestnut Hill a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes, and two assists in the second, helping extend the lead to five goals, 6-1, at the halftime break.
Killion's hat trick would come in the second quarter alone, including a man-down goal with 6:56 left, in a game that saw five of the seven goals get scored in unassisted fashion. The Griffins rifled off 13 shots in the second alone, recording more shots in that one 15-minute session than they had in the other three quarters combined, while Post had their fewest with just two and out shot Chestnut Hill the rest of the game, 16-11. Killion alone took 11 of the 24 shots that the Griffins had in the game, getting 10 of them on net while also winning five draw controls in the victory.
Graduate goalie
Lauren Bain had a solid day in net for Post, allowing only those six goals while making 11 saves, but the lack of offense for the Eagles made the five-goal lead insurmountable. Neither team would find the back of the net in the second half in a game that was riddled with turnovers by both sides to the tune of 29 for Post and 23 for Chestnut Hill, who led the ground ball battle by a 20-15 margin and won 8-of-11 draw controls.
