Softball Shut Out in Back-to-Back Home Games Versus Southern New Hampshire

WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior infielder Abby Lineman went 5-for-7 with two home runs, a double, 11 RBIs, and four runs scored for Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field as Post University Softball was shut out for the third time in four games to start the season, 8-0 and 14-0, both in five innings against the Penmen.

Sophomore utility player Allysa Calabrese had two of the four hits on the afternoon for the Eagles and now has a three-game hitting streak heading into the Florida trip after Post was no-hit in their first game of the season against Southern Connecticut State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Post University 0, Southern New Hampshire University 8 (5 Innings)
Freshman outfielder Isabella Oliver and Calabrese recorded the only two hits of the game for the Eagles, who were downed via a five-inning mercy rule, which was their second of the season. Oliver would triple with one out in the third while Calabrese had a one-out double in the fifth in hopes of being driven home to extend the game to at least a sixth inning.

But senior right-hander Amelia Freitas was near-perfect in the win for the Penmen, going the full five innings on 49 pitches while allowing just those two hits and striking out six batters. Her counterpart in graduate right-hander Katelyn Lipsky went the distance as well, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts and one walk on 102 pitches in her second loss of the season.

Southern New Hampshire's offense would be spearheaded by a pair of four-run innings in the first and fifth, being led by Lineman's 2-for-3 day with a two-run home run and two-run single for a total of four runs batted in. Sophomore outfielder Charlotte Donovan accounted for two RBIs as well with her first-inning single in the 8-0 victory.

Three Penmen recorded multi-hit games with Lineman, sophomore infielder Grace Jenkins, and junior infielder Peyton Feldman each going 2-for-3 with a total of four RBIs and four runs scored combined.

Game 2: Post University 0, Southern New Hampshire University 14 (5 Innings)
Lineman's hot bat would continue in game two as the junior went 3-for-4, falling just short of the cycle with a single, double, and her second home run of the day. While the Penmen would put up 14 runs as a team, Lineman alone would account for seven of those RBIs as well as score twice in the win for Southern New Hampshire.

Following up her 2-for-3 game one, Feldman had a big second game at the plate as well for the Penmen, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, five RBIs, a walk, and run scored. Both Lineman and Feldman combined for 12 of the 14 runs batted in by Southern New Hampshire in game two while freshman right-hander Meghan McGurk took her second loss of the season after allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits with three walks and a wild pitch.

Sophomore right-hander Julianna Colbert spun the second shutout of the day for the Penmen, allowing no runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk on 60 pitches. Lipsky and Calabrese would account for the only two hits of the second game for a Post team that had just four combined hits in the doubleheader while allowing 22 runs on 24 hits and committed six errors in their 10 innings.
