Women's Ice Hockey Swept Heading into Month Break by LIU

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Junior defenseman Emma Hoen capped off a stellar week for Post University Women's Ice Hockey with a goal and an assist, extending her point streak to three straight games, totaling five points along the way. Heading into the month-long winter break, the Eagles will now have. However, Post would be unable to find the win column this weekend against LIU after defeating Sacred Heart University on the road earlier this week, getting swept by the Sharks in their 2025 finale on Saturday, 5-3, after dropping yesterday's matchup at home.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, LIU 5

Post University (6-13-1, 6-7-1 NEWHA)

LIU (7-8-1, 5-8-1 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The goal scoring would come quickly in the opening period for both sides as it took only four minutes and 26 seconds of action midway through the frame for three goals to be put up between the two teams, seeing LIU jump ahead 2-1. Post would never lead in the affair as sophomore forward Crosby Wildfong opened the scoring at the 10:31 mark, before Hoen's second goal of the week extended her point streak to three straight games only 2:58 later.

The tie would be short-lived, as less than a minute and a half after Hoen's goal, sophomore forward Drew Dyczkowski found the back of the net for the second time this weekend, allowing the Sharks to regain the lead. Amid the frenzy of first-period action, senior goalie Hannah Saunders would come up with five saves while junior goalie Clara Kammholz made four saves and her team in front.

Despite eight combined goals being scored, the shot margin was in favor of LIU by a slim 23-21 margin as Saunders and Kammholz ended up finishing with 18 saves each for their respective teams. Three power-play chances would come Post's way, all of which would be quelled with only two shots taken across them all, while the lone opportunity of the day for the Sharks resulted in another go-ahead goal, this time by junior forward Victoria Petruska, around seven minutes after junior forward Jodie Rose had tied the game up at two in the second.

The trio of Dyczkowski, Petruska, and Vreeman would add to the LIU offense in the third as Dyczkowski extended the LIU lead to two goals with the help of Vreeman, before Petruska finished off the stretch of three unanswered Sharks goals with under five minutes remaining in regulation. While senior forward Maddy Noonan would get one back for the Eagles only 14 seconds after the goal from Petruska, that would be all for the Eagles' offense in the 5-3 loss.
