Third Period Goals Send LIU Past Women's Ice Hockey in Penultimate Game of 2025

SHELTON, Conn. – Junior forward Jet Devlin scored her third goal of the season, a new season-best for her, in the second period for Post University Women's Ice Hockey, but in their final home game at the Sports Center of Connecticut on the 2025 half of their schedule, the Eagles would fall to LIU after three unanswered goals from the Sharks, 3-1, on Friday afternoon.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, LIU 3

Post University (6-12-1, 6-6-1 NEWHA)

LIU (6-8-1, 4-8-1 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first period would be owned by Post as the Eagles jumped all over the Sharks with 26 shots directed at junior goalie Clara Kammholz, nine of which would reach her in net and be stopped, while senior goalie Hannah Saunders held the six shots from the Sharks in check to send the two teams into the second period scoreless.

While LIU would have to kill off a penalty to junior forward Victoria Petruska that bled into the second, they would do so without issue before incurring a second penalty to junior defenseman Ella Knewtson moments later, resulting in Post's only goal of the game. Off the initial pass from junior defenseman Emma Hoen, fellow junior defenseman Marley Webster fired on Kammholz, who stopped her shot, but the redirect went to the stick of Devlin with a wide-open net for the goal, giving Post the lead, 1-0, only 3:58 into the second.

The lead would last less than three minutes as sophomore forward Drew Dyczkowski tied things up at one all with the help of senior defenseman Emma Mortl and junior forward Grace Babington, which would be the start of the three unanswered goals for the Sharks. Scoring less than a minute and a half apart in the third, Petruska would get the eventual game-winning goal, followed by Mortl's insurance goal, both coming just after the halfway point of the frame.

Kammholz would endure just eight shots from the Post offense in the third, while Saunders, who made 31 stops in the loss, faced 12 shots in the same span as well as 25 shots overall in the final two periods. The win for LIU was their 20th in the all-time series against the Eagles, which began during the 2019-20 season.
