Men's Basketball Heads into Winter Break on Three-Game Slide Following Loss to Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Graduate forward Derrick Thomas II led four Post University Men's Basketball players in double figures with 15 points on 7-for-20 shooting, as the Eagles wrapped up the 2025 side of their schedule, heading into the winter break on a three-game losing streak after falling to Saint Anselm College on the road, 85-70, on Friday afternoon.

THE BASICS

Post University 70, Saint Anselm College 85

Post University (3-8)

Saint Anselm College (8-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Thomas II and junior guard Zion Lott, who shot a combined 8-for-17 (47%) in the first half for the Eagles, helped lead the visitors to an early edge on the Hawks. The Post lead grew to as many as six points in the opening 20 minutes, 15-9, in a half that saw eight lead changes and six ties.

That six-point advantage was fueled by a 10-0 run from the Eagles, before senior guard Josh Morissette broke up the run with his free throw make. Tied at 31, all heading into the under four-minute timeout, Post's shooting would struggle to the tune of seven missed shots on eight total attempts. That would lead to only two points in the final four minutes, while the Hawks blitzed the Eagles' defense with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting with four free throws and a three-pointer from junior forward Jack Medalie.

Medalie led all scorers with 10 points at the break, going 4-for-6 from the floor with one three and three blocked shots. Saint Anselm as a team shot an impressive 57.1%, connecting on 16-of-28 shots, despite losing the turnover battle by a 6-0 margin, which led to six points off turnovers for Post.

The Eagles would pull within six points on two occasions inside of 15 minutes to go in regulation, but that would be the closest they would get as Saint Anselm pulled away with a 6-0 run already ahead by seven points, opening up another double-digit lead, 66-52, with 10:20 to go, and never looking back. The Hawk lead stretched to as many as 21 points down the back end of the second half, allowing Saint Anselm to cruise to an 85-70 win, in a game where they shot 56.5% overall from the floor and 47.6% from three-point range.

Medalie led the Hawks with 16 points as one of five players to reach double figures on the home team, shooting 6-for-11 overall and 3-for-7 from three. Sophomore guard Jovan Ristic was not far behind the junior, recording 15 points and a double-double after grabbing 10 rebounds. An all-around game for sophomore guard Will Davies saw him manufacture 12 points in addition to tacking on eight assists and four rebounds.

As for Post, they would shoot 41.8% overall and 20% from long range with four scorers finishing in double figures. In addition to Thomas II, junior guard Zion Lott shot 50% from the field with 13 points, but missed all five of his attempts from three, while graduate forward Gianni Thompson had 12 points on 4-for-11 shooting, and junior guard Ta'Quan Williams had 10 points in the affair. On the boards, the Eagles were outrebounded by almost double, 42-23, but had a 16-3 edge in the turnover battle, leading to 22 points off turnovers compared to only two for the Hawks.
