Akok's Double-Double, Lott's 26-Point Game Lead Men's Basketball to Blowout Win of Georgian Court

WATERBURY, Conn. – The first double-double of junior forward Deng Akok's career as a member of Post University Men's Basketball, coupled with a 26-point performance on 50% shooting (10-for-20) by junior guard Zion Lott, were more than enough for the Eagles to snap their three-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon in their first game of 2026 in the Drubner Center. Taking down Georgian Court University, 104-72.

Akok's 10-point, 13-rebound game, helped lead the Eagles to their largest win since they defeated Caldwell University last season at home, 88-57, on February 16th, 2025, as well as the most points in a single game against the Lions in program history, and the most points in a game since December 7th, 2024 in a 111-100 win at home against the University of Bridgeport.

THE BASICS

Post University 104, Georgian Court University 72

Post University (4-8, 3-2 CACC)

Georgian Court University (5-8, 2-3 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Over the past several games, the issue for Post has been being able to take leads early and maintain them throughout the entirety of the game, that would not be the case on Saturday against the Lions, in what was essentially a wire-to-wire victory for the Eagles. Georgian Court would never take the lead in the affair, only tying the score at seven points with 17 minutes to go in the first half and again at 10 points only 57 seconds later. After that, three straight points from Lott ended up being the catalyst for a 9-0 run by the Eagles, highlighted by two threes from graduate guard Cape Holden in the process.

Senior guard Cam Edmonds knocked down a pair of free throws for the Lions to end that Post run, but five straight points from senior guard Tre Duncan brought Post's edge into double-digit territory where it would remain for the rest of the game despite it coming at the 12:38 mark of the first half. The lead would expand to as many as 22 points for Post before settling at 18 points going into halftime after graduate forward Gianni Thompson's three at the buzzer, 52-34.

Already well on his way to his double-double, Akok had six points on only 2-of-8 shooting, but nine rebounds to lead all players while the Eagles trailed in the rebound battle narrowly, 22-21. Lott and Edmonds did battle against each other in the points category with Lott scoring 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting with two threes, while Edmonds closed at 12 points on 3-for-6 shooting with a pair of triples as well. As a team, Post shot a blistering 51.3% overall and 44.4% from long range, marks they would maintain into the second half in which they shot 50% during the final 20 minutes and 40% from beyond the arc.

On the day, the Eagles were 50.6% from the field, 42.5% from three, and only 43.8% from the free throw line as they made just 7-of-16 shots at the charity stripe, their second-lowest mark behind only a 40% game against Chestnut Hill College in overtime. The lead for Post would grow to as many as 34 points with 1:07 left in regulation following a layup from freshman guard Harry Scully. Scully was one of seven Eagles to reach double figures, scoring 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting with seven assists and five rebounds. Akok and graduate forward Derrick Thomas II also had 10 points each, with Thomas II going 5-for-6 from the floor with eight rebounds.
