Women's Ice Hockey Doubled Up, 4-2, by Saint Anselm at Home

SHELTON, Conn. –  Despite a late arrival from Saint Anselm College to the Sports Center of Connecticut on Friday night due to traffic, the Hawks did not miss a beat on the ice, stifling Post University Women's Ice Hockey after the Eagles came off an eight-goal weekend against Saint Michael's College. Hitting the ice running, Saint Anselm scored twice in the first and never looked back en route to a 4-2 win over Post to open the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The power-play unit for Saint Anselm would find its rhythm, entering the game 8-for-40 (20%) on the year and going a perfect 2-for-2 on Friday night. Both man-up goals would come in the first period, about nine minutes apart, as freshman forward Lauren Waldo netted her second goal of the season only 8 ½ minutes into the contest.

Waldo would get assistance from both sophomore defenseman Justyce Ohlgren and junior defenseman Brenna Young in the process for a Hawks team that had four different players score and seven different players record assists. The lead would stretch to three goals heading into the third period for Saint Anselm, with senior defenseman Cora Webber and senior forward Mackenzie Moss finding the back of the net against senior goalie Hannah Saunders.

Senior forward Maddy Noonan would break the seal on the scoring for the Eagles in the third, preventing freshman goalie Kayla Czukoski from earning her first collegiate shutout with sophomore defenseman Caryss Kehl picking up an assist on the score. It would take less than a minute for the Hawks to respond with junior forward Alexis Poppleton recording her second assist of the game while helping senior forward Sydney Merritt extend the Hawk lead back to three goals, 4-1.

Junior forward Jet Devlin would give Post only their third power-play goal of the season and net her first goal since her freshman year with 4:57 left, as Czukoski fought off 55 shots from the Eagles in the 4-2 win for Saint Anselm, who moved to 6-1-0 in conference play to start the season. Offensively, the Hawks finished with three multi-point players in Poppleton with two assists, Moss with a goal and an assist, as well as Webber with a goal and an assist in the win.
