Tymmarie Grom Breaks Consecutive Games Played Record for Women's Ice Hockey in Shutout Loss

SHELTON, Conn. –  Senior forward Tymmarie Grom set the Post University Women's Ice Hockey program record for the most consecutive games played on Saturday afternoon, appearing in her 123rd game against Saint Anselm College in a 4-0 loss as the Eagles suffered their second straight loss of the weekend. Grom surpassed Molly Brumfield, Kendall Fitzgerald, and Kalena Mueller from the inaugural seasons of the program for the mark, as that trio played in 122 consecutive games before concluding their careers at Post.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Saint Anselm College 4

Post University (3-10-1, 3-4-1 NEWHA)

Saint Michael's College (7-6-0, 7-1-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second straight day, it was Post generating more offense than Saint Anselm to the tune of a 41-38 lead in shots on goal and generated 79 shots overall, 13 of which were blocked by the defense of the Hawks. Sophomore goalie Julia Matyas made 41 saves in net for the opposition, resulting in the seventh shutout of the season for the Eagles and her first collegiate shutout.

Opposite of her, sophomore goalie Devyn Amundson got the start in net and after allowing a goal to freshman forward Ava Hunter less than a minute and a half into the affair, she would settle in to make 20 saves, keeping the score at 1-0 heading into the third as up to that point, while Post had a 31-20 edge in shots on goal.

But after the Eagles dominated the first half of the third, still being held off the board by Matyas, the Hawks' offense came to life, scoring twice in five minutes against Amundson, forcing her from the game for senior goalie Hannah Saunders after making 32 saves in 54 1/2 minutes. Junior defenseman Brenna Young would be credited with the power play goal, followed by sophomore forward Nicola Forth during that quick blitz by Saint Anselm.

In relief, Saunders would make two stops, and with her pulled for the extra attacker, junior forward Alexis Poppleton hit the empty net with 2:01 left in regulation to seal the deal on the weekend sweep for the Hawks with a 4-0 win on Saturday.
