HOW IT HAPPENED
Cunneen was stellar in net, warding off all 22 shots by the Purple Knights, who had three power-play chances on the afternoon. After the program never had a recorded shutout entering the season, Cunneen is now the owner of both of the shutouts in Eagle history, with this one being his first 60-minute showing after an equipment malfunction forced him off the ice for 40 seconds in the 6-0 win over WestConn to start the year. Today's shutout marks the first Division II and Northeast-10 Conference shutout for Post.
Entering the day, Post's power play had been struggling to the tune of a 1-for-15 effort over the last three games until Reager struck on the man-up advantage just over 8 1/2 minutes into the first with the right side shot from sophomore forward
Holden Beckett and the help of senior forward
Conner Murray to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. That edge would hold into the third when Beckett, who also had a goal and an assist, struck for the second power-play goal of the day, this time from Reager, to give Post some insurance with just under 17 minutes remaining in regulation.
With time winding down, Saint Michael's looked to have found the back of the net, ending Cunneen's shutout opportunity and cutting the deficit in half, but the goal would be waved off by the referees, keeping Post ahead 2-0. Senior forward
Baxter Kimball would go on to score an unassisted empty net goal following a shot attempt by junior forward Hans Forselius, clinching the 3-0 win for Post, their first against the Purple Knights since February 26th, 2022.
