Late Goal Clinches #1 Seed for Men's Soccer, Fifth Consecutive CACC Regular Season Championship

WATERBURY, Conn. – The unbeaten season continued on for Post University Men's Soccer as the Eagles moved to 7-0-7, sitting as one of only five teams in all of Division II Men's Soccer to still not have a loss this season, behind a late-stage goal from graduate midfielder Luis Rodrigues on Senior Day Saturday at LaMoy Field against Georgian Court University.

The win for Post helps them wrap up a 6-0-4 campaign against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents, locking them in as the top seed in the CACC Tournament next weekend for the fifth consecutive year.

THE BASICS

RV Post University 1, Georgian Court University 0

RV Post University (7-0-7, 6-0-4 CACC)

Georgian Court University (5-7-3, 4-5-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Defense was the name of the game for both teams as the offenses for Post and Georgian Court finished with eight total shots each, with the Lions doubling up the Eagles in shots on goal, 6-3. Junior goalkeeper Leopold Dufaut earned his sixth shutout of the season after making six saves, five of which came in the second half, now holding a 7-0-7 record between the posts this year.

Despite the edge in shots on goal, Georgian Court would have just one corner kick, which came in the first half, as opposed to Post, which had seven throughout the entire 90 minutes. Things would get chippy for both teams as the Eagles were slightly ahead in fouls by a 14-13 margin with junior forward Aidan Tross getting handed the only yellow card of the match.

As for Rodrigues, he netted his team-leading sixth goal of the 2025 campaign with the help of graduate midfielder Sami Charaf Amal and senior midfielder Lukas Glade with 12 1/2 minutes remaining in the match. A tie for Post would have set up a chance for the University of Bridgeport to swipe the #1 seed with a win against Dominican (N.Y.) on Wednesday night, but Rodrigues' third game-winning goal of the year would clinch the 1-0 win for the Eagles, who continue their stranglehold on the conference standings for the fifth straight year.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Luis Rodrigues is responsible for game-winning goals in three matches so far this year and one game-tying goal, which came against Goldey-Beacom College
  • Post University has now won five consecutive CACC Regular Season Championships, dating back to 2021, following the canceled 2020 season
  • Unbeaten through 14 matches to start the season, this is the best start Post University has had in program history – The previous best for the Eagles was nine matches during the 2011 season, when they were 5-0-4 to start the year before losing 4-0 to Wilmington University
  • Post University's unbeaten streak has been extended to 17 consecutive games dating back to the start of the NCAA Tournament last fall

WHO'S NEXT
Post University closes out the 2025 regular season with a road match against nationally-ranked Bentley University next Tuesday at 3:00 PM. This is the first time since 2019 that the two teams will meet, and the Eagles hold a 4-0-1 record against the Falcons since 2013, after losing the first five meetings to begin the head-to-head.
