Women's Soccer Loses Narrow Matchup to Queens College

FLUSHING, N.Y. –  Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Hines-Hirsch held the Post University Women's Soccer offense in check on Wednesday night for Queens College as the Eagles were shutout on the road after a first-half goal from senior midfielder Adrianna Melgar would be all the scoring for either side in a 1-0 finish in Flushing, New York.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Queens College 1

Post University (0-8-1)

Queens College (2-6-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Controlling the tempo for most of the first half, Queens College held a gaudy 12-1 edge in total shots and a 5-1 lead in shots on goal after 45 minutes, as junior midfielder Reese Kloetzer was the lone Post player with a shot against Hines-Hirsch in the 16th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Aryn Nisbet made four saves to start the match before the Knights' offense broke through against her in the 39th minute, moments after their ninth and final corner kick of the half. Melgar would be the recipient of the goal from freshman midfielder Avery Shreffler, as her shot caromed off an Eagle defender on its way to the net, redirecting it past Nisbet for the lone goal of the half, giving Queens the lead, 1-0, heading into halftime.

Junior midfielder Audrey Cadman gave Post a quality scoring chance to start the second half in the Hines-Hirsch in the 55th minute, firing a shot low in a one-on-one situation with a defender in front, but her opportunity would be stopped by the sophomore. Sophomore defender Hannah Vancise would have a similar look of her own in the 73rd minute as well, ending with the same result in a save from Hines-Hirsch.

In the waning moments of the match, the Eagles would get one more crack at Hines-Hirsch as freshman forward Mya Pereira fired a shot just right of the goal mouth with 10 seconds left, as Post fell to 0-8-1 on the season with the 1-0 loss to the Knights. Post closed the second half, having only been outshot 6-4 by Queens as well as 3-2 in shots on goal.
