WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior midfielder
Audrey Cadman netted her first goal of the season in the 64th minute of action for Post University Women's Soccer as the Eagles worked to their second tie of the season against Wilmington University in their return to LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
Post University 1, Wilmington University 1
Post University (0-8-2, 0-3-2 CACC)
Wilmington University (6-1-4, 3-0-3 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Possession for most of the match would be controlled by the Wildcats, who held a 28-8 edge in overall shots as well as a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal when all was set and done, but Post would attack in spurts, putting sophomore goalkeeper Isabella Mazzone on her heels at times. Mazzone would not face a shot on goal until the 29th minute, which also coincided with the first shot of the match for the Eagles, when she stopped sophomore defender
Hannah Vancise's opportunity on the right side.
Cadman, who finished the match with four shots, would have a couple of first-half chances as well, one of which came on a breakaway attempt, but would go high over the crossbar and out of Mazzone's way in the net. Wilmington would counter with three shots against junior goalkeeper
Aryn Nisbet, all in a short span of 12 seconds in the box, but Nisbet would counter all three, keeping the match scoreless heading into halftime.
Post would break the seal on the match in the 65th minute as a ball caroming around the midfield found the foot of sophomore midfielder
Rhee Morrison, who passed it down the right sideline to junior forward
Jordyn Calas in stride. Crossing it in front of Mazzone in goal, both Cadman and junior midfielder
Reese Kloetzer were in the area of the ball as it found the latter's foot for her first goal of the season, giving the Eagles their first lead since the match against Daemen University, 1-0.
However, the lead would last less than two minutes as a free ball in the box bounced around some Post defenders and eventually over to freshman defender Indigo Kirk for the score into the right side of the net, equalizing things at one all in the 67th minute. Only one shot on goal the rest of the way for the Eagles would reach Mazzone in net, and it would be by Cadman in the 89th minute, while Nisbet was tagged with four more shots on goal. Nisbet closed the 1-1 affair, tying her season high in saves with 11, while Mazzone made four for the Wildcats.
