HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore forward Kaitlin Sullivan got the scoring started for the Crusaders in the first period with her strike right in front of Saunders after being fed from junior forward Manny Gendron and senior forward Charlotte Sonntag just under 7 1/2 minutes into the frame. That would be the only goal Saunders allowed through 20 minutes, making 16 saves in net, while the Post offense manufactured six shots against senior goalie Abby Hornung without being able to find the equalizer.
Each of the next two periods, Holy Cross would score twice as freshman forward Naemi Herzig redirected a shot from senior defenseman Taylor Cantelon in front of Saunders on the feed from Lewis, who assisted on the first goal of the third period credited to freshman forward Violet Carroll, and then netted one of her own in the waning moments of the third to cap off her three-point day.
Junior forward Emily Crovo had the other goal for Holy Cross, who had five different goal scorers in the victory, on top of both Sonntag and Lewis recording two-assist performances, and seven total different players being credited with assists for the game. In net, Hornung made 17 saves for the Crusaders before being lifted for freshman goalie Campbell Krotee in the final 5 1/2 minutes of regulation, as she made one save of her own to cap off the pair of shutouts this weekend for Holy Cross, 5-0.
