Pablo Tenorio's Trio of Offensive Trips Lead Men's Soccer to Dominant 4-0 Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –  It was a breakout performance to remember for graduate midfielder Pablo Tenorio on Saturday afternoon for Post University Men's Soccer that the Eagle offense needed. Providing a much-needed spark for the Post team that entered the week having only scored more than one goal in one match this season, Tenorio put up three goals and two assists this week alone to help the Eagles score two-plus goals in each of their matches. Scoring twice on Saturday with one assist, Tenorio finished the week with eight points and helped lead the Eagles to a big 4-0 win over Chestnut Hill College.

With only two matches remaining in conference play, Post has officially locked up a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, and with a tie by the University of Bridgeport late tonight, now owns the number one seed by two points over the Purple Knights, and three points over Jefferson University. Holding the tiebreaker over the Rams and Felician University, who play on Sunday and have a game in hand on the Eagles with 10 points, a win over Caldwell University at home this Wednesday would ensure a top-two spot for Post in the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was the Tenorio and graduate midfielder Luis Rodrigues show all afternoon for the Eagles, as the duo was responsible for all four of Post's goals, scoring two each, while Tenorio added an assist to his resume for the day and Rodrigues had two. Post's offense outshot Chestnut Hill by a 14-7 margin with a 12-2 edge in shots on goal, forcing both junior goalkeeper Leopold Dufaut, who played 83 minutes, and senior goalkeeper Chris Jones, who played nearly seven minutes in his first appearance of the season, to make one save each in the victory. Senior goalkeeper Rodrigo Artiga finished the match with eight saves for the Griffins, while allowing all four goals.

Senior midfielder Lucas Fernandes helped hook up Rodrigues with his first goal of the afternoon with a pair of beautiful back-and-forth touch passes outside the box that ended in Rodrigues scoring on the right side of the net against Artiga in only the 19th minute. Post would head into halftime with that one-goal lead and a narrow 5-4 edge in shots on goal, but forcing Artiga to make four saves as all five shots were on target.

Scoring three more goals in the span of less than four minutes, Tenorio started the run with his first of the match from senior midfielder Lukas Glade and Rodrigues, before it was Rodrigues' turn to net his second goal only 45 seconds later. Senior forward Matheus Milagres fed the ball towards Tenorio in the box, who chipped it past a defender to Rodrigues for the right-side score, making it a 3-0 match, before only 2:54 had passed until the next Eagle goal.

Rounding out the offense for the match was Tenorio again, as Rodrigues' through ball into the box was tapped by junior forward Aidan Tross, and the graduate student fired two shots on Artiga after the initial save, finding the back of the net for the fourth and final goal of the affair. The four-goal outburst for the Eagles was their first since October 26th of last season, when they were 4-1 winners on the road against Georgian Court University.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Pablo Tenorio finished the match with two goals and an assist, finishing off a week for Post University in which he had three goals and two assists for eight total points
  • Luis Rodrigues had two goals of his own today, bringing his season total to a team-leading seven goals, while adding an assist on the second goal of the match by Pablo Tenorio
  • Unbeaten through 12 matches to start the season, this is the best start Post University has had in program history – The previous best for the Eagles was nine matches during the 2011 season, when they were 5-0-4 to start the year before losing 4-0 to Wilmington University
  • Post University's unbeaten streak has been extended to 15 consecutive games dating back to the start of the NCAA Tournament last fall

WHO'S NEXT
Heading into their final two conference matches, both of which will be at home next week, Post University will face Caldwell University on Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field at 3:30 PM. The Eagles saw their seven-game winning streak in the all-time series come to an end last year, falling 2-1 on the road to the Cougars for their only conference loss of the 2024 campaign.
