Women's Ice Hockey Drops Back-and-Forth Tilt with RIT on Saturday

SHELTON, Conn. – In a game that was highlighted by 11 combined power plays for both sides and five of the seven goals scored in those instances, Post University Women's Ice Hockey fell in a back-and-forth tilt on Saturday at home against Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), 4-3, after being unable to convert on a 6-on-3 opportunity with inside a minute remaining in regulation, starting off 2025 on a two-game losing streak as they head back into conference play next weekend against Saint Michael's College at home.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, RIT 4

Post University (4-14-3)

RIT (11-8-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Making up for the shorthanded goal they allowed less than 24 hours ago, it was the Eagles striking first with freshman forward Rowyn Ringor's team-leading seventh goal of the season after sophomore forward Noa Farberman was issued a hooking penalty. The Eagles would take that 1-0 edge into the second despite allowing RIT to go on the man advantage twice in the period and being outshot by a guady 16-4 margin through the first 20 minutes.

Junior goalie Hannah Saunders, who finished the game with 44 saves in the loss, had to make a combined 37 saves through the first two periods, including 21 saves in a second period which saw the Tigers net three goals. On the first of three power-play goals for RIT, it was freshman forward Brac Kelley evening up the score just 3:02 into the second before once again the Eagles would take the lead back with senior defenseman Angeline Pitter's score with the help of senior forward Julia Wysocki.

Wysocki now leads the team with seven assists after helping Pitter on that goal, moving ahead of Ringor who entered the day with six goals and six assists as did the senior. Capitalizing on yet another power-play opportunity as a result of a penalty to Wysocki, sophomore forward Linda Rulle netted the equalizer before senior defenseman Kyla Bear closed out the second with a score that flipped the one-goal lead in favor of the Tigers heading into the final period, 3-2.

Scoring their only power-play goal in four attempts this afternoon would be sophomore defenseman Dani Ammons only 1:21 into the third to tie the game back up at three all with the help of Ringor who reclaimed the tie for the team lead in assists with Wysocki at seven. But for an RIT team that finished the day 3-for-7 on the power-play, that would be the difference maker as senior forward Kylie Aquaro fired a loose puck in front of Saunders inside of five minutes to go to give the Tigers the eventual game-winner.

But the Eagles would have their chance to tie with under two minutes to go when penalties to Kelley and senior forward Athena Vasdani resulted in a 5-on-3 power-play chance for Post that moved to a 6-on-3 since Saunders was pulled from the net. Maintaining the offensive zone for the entire last 1:02 of regulation, Ringor would have four one-time shots from the right side that were either stopped by freshman goalie Brenna McNamara or blocked down by the RIT defense as the last gasp for the Eagles was not enough in the 4-3 loss.
