Parker Norling and Power Play Lift Men's Ice Hockey to First Win in 10 Games Against Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. -- After a sluggish start coming off of the winter break, Post University Men's Ice Hockey is rolling again as the Eagles snapped a 10-game winless streak against Saint Michael's College to pick up their third straight win overall and fifth consecutive win in conference play after starting the Northeast-10 schedule with an 0-5-0 record following their 3-2 win against the Purple Knights on Friday evening.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Saint Michael's College 2

Post University (7-9-0, 5-5-0 NE10)

Saint Michael's College (10-8-2, 6-5-0 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
There were penalties aplenty in this matchup with both teams having lopsided periods in which they would give their opponent a man-up advantage. In the first period, it was advantage Post with the Eagles getting four power-play opportunities, including a 5-on-3 about halfway through the frame.

Scoring two power-play goals on the night, both of those would come in the first as freshman defenseman Aidan Canady evened the game up at one all just over 12 minutes into the game after senior forward Jack Macdonald had given the Purple Knights an early 1-0 lead on the first penalty of the night issued to the Purple Knights only 3 1/2 minutes into the contest. Taking full advantage of the 5-on-3 power play they had a brief time later, junior forward Baxter Kimball beat junior goalie Cole Manahan, giving Post a 2-1 lead after the first.

On both of the Eagles goals, freshman defenseman Eoin Reager picked up an assist, making it three of his last four games with a point, and with the two assists this evening, Reager had the first multi-point game of his career. Also extending his point streak was Canady as his goal made it four straight games with at least one point and six of his last seven while his assist on the second goal made it four consecutive games and six of his last seven with at least one assist.

Sophomore forward Parker Norling tallied his second goal of the season just over halfway through the second period as the Eagles looked to be cruising until a crucial five-minute spearing penalty plus a two-minute tripping penalty both issued to junior forward Nathan McDevitt gave Saint Michael's a total of seven power-play minutes to start the third. With five of those minutes being a major penalty, Post was forced to kill off that initial infraction, which prevented them from going back to even strength should the Purple Knights score.

While Saint Michael's did get one back during the power play from freshman forward Roman Winicki, it would come just over five minutes into the third, wiping off the remaining power-play time that the Purple Knights had. From there, the Eagles would have two more power-play tries while Saint Michael's had one with neither being able to put one into the back of the net. With the goalie pulled, Kimball nearly netted his second goal of the evening, missing wide just before time expired on a 3-2 win for Post while moving junior goalie Benjamin Cunneen to second in program history for single-season wins with his seventh of the year after making 28 saves.
