Akot, Men's Basketball Snap Two-Game Losing Streak with Big Conference Win at Home Against Felician

WATERBURY, Conn. – Senior guard Bol Akot recorded his eighth consecutive game with 10 points or more for Post University Men's Basketball, scoring 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting with a 3-for-5 performance from three-point range as the Eagles snapped their two-game losing streak with a big conference win over Felician University in the Drubner Center on Tuesday night, 74-69.

Graduate forward Harrison Warnock also turned in his fourth double-double of the season for Post after dropping 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to make it two double-doubles in his last four games.

THE BASICS

Post University 74, Felician University 69

Post University (9-8, 3-2 CACC)

Felician University (9-6, 2-3 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Akot paced the first half for the Eagles, scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting while making 3-of-4 threes as one of seven scorers for Post in the first 20 minutes of the game. Junior guard Marcus Pierce nearly matched Akot, scoring 10 points for the Golden Falcons on 3-of-6 shooting to lead the way for Felician.

But despite the Golden Falcons holding a 13-for-21 shooting half (61.9%) from the field and hitting 6-of-8 threes (75%), they would lead by as many as four points to start the game, 7-3, before Post took the lead back and never let go of it the rest of the first half. A 10-0 run put the Eagles ahead by four, 13-7, as Akot poured in eight of his points right off the bat and the lead extended to as many as nine points, 29-20, with 5:34 left in the half.

In response, a 5-0 run by Felician led by Pierce made it a four-point game shortly after which is the margin of the lead the Eagles would have heading into the second half after Akot's buzzer-beating jumper made it 39-35. But the start to the second half would be a different story for Post as they fell behind early by two points, 41-39, on a 6-0 run by the Golden Falcons which was manufactured by four points from Pierce.

The lead for Felician would stretch to as many as six points with 14:32 remaining in regulation following back-to-back baskets from junior guard Jared White and senior forward Jonathan Izemef, 49-43, and the game would remain in favor of the visitors until a 9-0 run which started with six straight points by senior forward Deng Deang, flipped things back in favor of the Eagles with 8:03 to go.

Post would never lead by more than four points down the stretch and heading into the final two minutes, a pair of free throws by Pierce tied the game up at 66 all with 1:50 left. But the end of the game would belong to the Eagles as four combined free throws between Warnock and Akot around a layup from junior guard Tre Duncan triggered a 6-0 run that put them ahead by their largest margin of the half at six points, 72-66, and only 14 seconds away from a win.

In that same stretch, senior forward Johnny Tovar missed a three-point try while White missed two as the Golden Falcons finished the game 1-for-5 from the floor with all five shots being three-point attempts. After the final missed three, Deang would be fouled and close things out with two free throw makes to give Post the two-possession win, 74-69.
