Warnock Ties Season-High with 21 Points, Men's Basketball Falls Short Against Chestnut Hill

WATERBURY, Conn. – Graduate forward Harrison Warnock reached double-digit scoring for the fifth straight game, dropping 21 points on 7-for-16 shooting while hitting a pair of threes, but Post University Men's Basketball would be unable to overcome a 27% shooting first half nor take the lead in the final 20 minutes against Chestnut Hill College in conference play at home, falling 69-61 on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

Post University 61, Chestnut Hill College 69

Post University (8-8, 2-2 CACC)

Chestnut Hill College (6-8, 2-2 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Warnock's four-point start to the affair gave the Eagles one of only two leads in the game, 4-2, followed by sophomore guard Ta'Quan Williams' jumper at the 16:32 mark which helped Post regain their two-point edge, 6-4, before they never led the rest of the way. Junior center Alejandro Redondo Cybak drained a jumper followed by senior guard Lucas Dunn's layup to put the Griffins ahead by two at which point they would never look back. Those baskets would start a 9-0 run for Chestnut Hill to help them go ahead by seven points, 13-6, with 13:22 left in the half.

That lead for the Griffins grew to as many as 13 points over the course of the first 20 minutes of action, 30-17, following a three-ball from senior guard Omari Salvi, and despite a pair of jumpers from senior guard Bol Akot and a bucket from graduate forward Derrick Thomas II down the stretch, Chestnut Hill would take a double-digit lead, 33-23, heading into the halftime break. In all, the Eagles would go 9-for-33 (28.2%) from the floor while making just 1-of-10 (10%) threes in the first half while the Griffins finished just below 50% from the field at 14-for-29 (48.8%) with 5-of-12 three-pointers going down.

Immediately out of halftime, Akot helped jump-start a 7-0 run for the Eagles to pull them back within three points in only the first three minutes of the second half, 33-30. But for every small run or basket that Post would be able to manufacture on the offensive end, Chestnut Hill would answer back to maintain the lead albeit a narrow one in the contest with things staying between a one and two-possession stalemate. Nearly halfway through the half, sophomore forward Joachim Radcliffe's jumper cut the deficit to its slimmest margin of the game at one point, 50-49, with still 9:14 to play.

However, the Griffins continued to have all the answers for the Eagles and after Thomas II got them within two points, 61-59, with 3:03 left and then Akot did the same inside of two minutes to make it 63-61, Chestnut Hill would close things out with a 6-0 run. Graduate guard Noah Charles knocked down a three with 1:23 left then picked up the layup and foul with 20 seconds to go to help the Griffins get out of the Drubner Center with their first road win against Post since the 2015-16 season, 69-61.
