Julia Wysocki Scores Two More Goals, Women's Ice Hockey Sqaunders Two-Goal Lead to Saint Michael's

SHELTON, Conn. –  Senior forward Julia Wysocki had another two-goal game for Post University Women's Ice Hockey, finishing the weekend scoring four of the Eagles' five goals against Saint Michael's College, but Wysocki's big day would be overshadowed by the Purple Knights comeback win. Sophomore forward Anna Jerylo's two goals mixed around freshman forward Anna Nelson's score helped Saint Michael's snap a 15-game losing streak that dated back to their only win of the season before today, which came against Post at home, with a 3-2 victory at the Sports Center of Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

Post University 2, Saint Michael's College 3

Post University (5-15-3, 5-9-3 NEWHA)

Saint Michael's College (2-20-0, 2-14-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both sides would go quiet in the first period as junior goalie Annika Lavender was faced with nine shots from the Post offense, keeping them off the scoreboard while junior goalie Hannah Saunders did the same for the Eagles with eight saves against the Purple Knights. Saint Michael's had just two power-play chances in the game, both of which came in the first period in which they had just two shots and finished 0-for-2 on.

For the Eagles, their penalty kill finished 6-for-6 on the weekend while holding Saint Michael's to just two total shots while the Purple Knights were equally as impressive when playing 5-on-4. After finishing the day 0-for-4 on the power play with six shot opportunities, Post ended the weekend just 1-for-13 with 19 total shots on the power play against Saint Michael's who allowed their opponent to score a power-play goal on 41.1% on their chances.

The second line for the Eagles accounted for both of their goals today as well as a total of all five on the weekend when all was set and done. Wysocki would score twice in the second, both times with the help of freshman forward Rowyn Ringor and sophomore forward Celena Mickevicius, just over four minutes apart, giving Post a 2-0 edge in the latter part of the frame. However, Jerlyo would cut the lead in half, 2-1, heading into the third with the help of freshman forwards Keeley Callander and Alicia McDonald, beating Saunders who now had 19 saves in the game.

Momentum stayed in favor of the Purple Knights into the third as Nelson knotted the game up just over five minutes into the period with the help of sophomore forward Alizee LeBlanc and under seven minutes later it was Jerylo from Callander to give Saint Michael's the 3-2 lead with 8:15 remaining. Saunders would be pulled for nearly the final two minutes of the game and the defense of the Purple Knights stood tall in front of Lavender, blocking four of the five shot attempts from Post to hold on for the 3-2 victory, snapping their 15-game losing skid.
