Luca Dettoli Nets Second Goal in Two Games for #14 Men's Soccer, Eagles Tie Adelphi in Wilmington Kickoff Finale

WILMINGTON, Del. –  Another late goal from graduate midfielder Luca Dettoli in the Wilmington Kickoff Invitational, this time with #14 Post University Men's Soccer trailing against Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon, helped lift the Eagles to a 1-1 tie against the Panthers, sending them into their first home match on the year next Wednesday still unbeaten after finishing 1-0-1 at the invite.

THE BASICS

#14 Post University 1, Adelphi University 1

#14 Post University (1-0-1)

Adelphi University (1-0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Similar to the other day, the Post defense was hard to get opportunities against, and as a result, the Panthers were held to just six shots total across the full 90 minutes with three being recorded in each half. However, just one shot made it on goal and that would be the lone goal of the afternoon for Adelphi.

With some nifty passing from junior midfielder Alessio Consoli and graduate forward Victor Castel, senior forward Richard DeBrosse found just enough space between the sliding Eagle defender to squeeze his shot inside the left post. Diving to his left, sophomore Leopold Dufaut would be unable to make the stop as the Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, Dufaut would not be forced to make another save for the remainder of the game.

The chances were far and few for Post as well, finishing the game with nine total shots and just three on net against sophomore goalkeeper Santiago Arango. But on their final shot on goal of the game in the 77th minute, Dettoli did what he does best and scored in the clutch for the Eagles. On a perfect cross pass from junior midfielder Markus Boe Tunge, Dettoli corralled the ball on his feet and rifled a shot from the left side of the box, freezing Arango for the equalizer. Just before Adelphi scored in the first half, Dettoli had a chance at that time to give Post the lead, but his penalty kick, the second of the weekend for him, went wide of the goal.

Neither team would get another shot-on-goal opportunity over the final 13 minutes of the game, working to a 1-1 tie which brought the all-time series to a perfect 2-2-2 overall.
