WATERBURY, Conn. – It was an aggressive, chippy conference matchup on Saturday afternoon for Post University Men's Soccer as they took on Holy Family University at LaMoy Field, leading to eight yellow cards in a 1-1 tie for a game that started about 15 minutes after it was scheduled to start due to travel issues for the Tigers.
THE BASICS
Post University 1, Holy Family University 1
Post University (3-3-2, 1-0-1 CACC)
Holy Family University (1-5-1, 0-2-1 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half would be relatively quiet for both teams as the Eagles held the overall advantage in shots, 9-3, and forced senior goalkeeper Luke Shank to make five saves compared to just two saves for graduate goalkeeper
Ricardo Moreno in a match that hit halftime in a 0-0 tie. Post also would have a 4-1 lead in corner kicks and proved to be slightly more aggressive in the field with seven fouls to the Tigers' three. However, senior midfielder Tajhay Williams would be awarded a yellow card, the first of eight on the afternoon between the two programs.
Just over 13 minutes into the second half of play, senior midfielder Sergio Revuelta looked to push the ball into the box near Moreno's right side but it deflected off graduate defender
Riccardo Di Vincenzo and into the back of the net for the first goal of the match which gave Holy Family a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute.
But a crucial point in the match would come just before that when senior midfielder Alvaro Orellana received his first yellow card of the match because another yellow card in the 66th minute resulted in him being disqualified from the contest, forcing the Tigers to play with only 10 total players in the field.
That would open the door for junior midfielder
Diego Righi's game-tying goal in the 73rd minute that came from graduate midfielder
Luca Dettoli down the right side to freshman forward
Marc Ballart who crossed it into the box for Righi's header to pull Post even at one all.
Despite ultimately holding a 20-7 shot advantage overall. 11-4 edge in shots on goal, and having eight corner kicks to Holy Family's two, the Eagle offense would be unable to generate the go-ahead goal despite some quality chances.
With just over a minute to go, Williams would be ruled offside for the Tigers on a two-on-one rush, and then with under 15 seconds remaining in the match, senior midfielder
Simon Hemler's shot would hit off the post after beating Shank on the right side, resulting in the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
