Women's Soccer Losing Streak Extends to Four in First Conference Loss of Season at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. – One goal in each half would be more than enough for Wilmington University to take down Post University Women's Soccer in their opening conference matchup of the 2024 campaign on Saturday afternoon on the road. With the 2-0 defeat, the Eagles lost their fourth straight match to start the season and will head on the road for their last non-conference matchup of the year this Wednesday at Southern Connecticut State University.

THE BASICS
Post University 0, Wilmington University 2

Post University (0-4-0, 0-1-0 CACC)

Wilmington University (4-2-0, 2-0-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After holding the Wildcats to no shots through the first 11 minutes of the first half, the Wilmington offense came to life against sophomore goalkeeper Aryn Nisbet rattling off four shots over the next nine minutes before finally breaking through in the 25th minute. Graduate forward Jordan Siok connected on the goal from senior midfielder Julia Yahase, her first of the season to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

The Eagle offense would look to respond before the first half ended as freshmen midfielder Hannah Vancise and Rhee Morrison each looked to beat sophomore goalkeeper Arianna Myers but were turned away as the Wildcats took that 1-0 edge into the second half of play.

It would not take long for Wilmington to add to that lead either as sophomore defender Maria Leguizamon scored just six minutes into the half on Nisbet, extending their lead to two goals which they would maintain the rest of the way for the 2-0 victory which moved them to 2-0-0 in conference play this season.

For the game, the Wildcats held a 20-4 advantage in total shots as well as a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles, who fell to 0-1-0 in conference play now and have lost four straight matches to start the season, had just two shots on goal, one in each half, in the loss.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Three Wilmington goalkeepers saw action today in Arianna Myers, Mio Nakajima, and Isabella Mazzone to combine for the team's second shutout of the season
  • Aryn Nisbet made seven saves in the loss bringing her total to 36 saves on the year and a 2.75 goals-against average
  • In all four games this season, Post University has been outshot by their opponents and had less than 10 total shots in three of those matches
  • Post University is now 7-14-1 all-time against Wilmington University, dropping the last two matchups against them after going 3-0-1 in the previous four before that

WHO'S NEXT
Post University will stay close to home as they travel on the road to face Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 PM. The Eagles have lost five of the six all-time matchups against the Owls including the last two in the last two years in shutout fashion, 3-0 and 6-0, at both teams' respective home fields.
