WATERBURY, Conn. -- Academic success was on full display for Post University Athletics within the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference during the last academic year as a program record six teams were honored for having the highest Team GPA in their respective sport for the CACC. Among those honored were Men's Golf, Men's Soccer, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, and for the second straight year Softball and Women's Tennis as announced by the league office on Thursday morning.
Just as impressive was the overall grade point average of athletics at Post this year, coming in at a cumulative 3.5 GPA with none of their teams finishing below a 3.0 cumulative GPA on the year. Post was the only school in the CACC to have all their eligible athletic programs finish with a 3.0 GPA or better. Including those athletic programs at Post that are in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance and Northeast-10 Conferences, all but one achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Leading the pack yet again this year was Women's Tennis with a 3.85 GPA under veteran Head Coach
Rob Howard, narrowly beating out CACC Champion Wilmington University again who finished with the second-highest among programs at a 3.848 GPA. Also winning for the second straight year was Softball under third-year Head Coach
Julie Meyer-Jones with a 3.84 GPA which topped all of Division II as well to earn them the NFCA/Easton Team GPA Award again.
Adding their names to the list this year were both Men's and Women's Basketball programs which saw exorbitant success on and off the court as the women's team under Head Coach
Courtney Burns in her first season finished with a 3.69 GPA while Head Coach
Marc Kuntz's team finished with a 3.12 GPA overall to win those two program awards. Two more fall sports were also GPA champions for their sports as Men's Golf under Stephen Sokol and the first-year Head Coach
Michael Erickson finished with a 3.61 GPA and Men's Soccer claimed the GPA Award with a 3.60 GPA.
In order to be eligible for the CACC Team GPA Awards, teams had to meet NCAA sport sponsorship standards.
Post University Athletics return to action for the fall season in just over two weeks on August 31st when Football takes on West Virginia Wesleyan College at 1:00 PM at Municipal Stadium. Parking for the game will cost $20.
